About the Role
In this role you will be working in a team structure including 4 partners, 4 of counsel/associates, 1 paralegal and 2 legal secretaries and will fill the role of Paralegal to the Finance Group in the London office of Maples and Calder.
The purpose is to assist in the day-to-day management and administration of an active portfolio of repackaging vehicles of various investment banks, Cayman Islands listings, real estate finance and fund finance matters, other structured finance programmes and with general corporate and banking opinion work.
It is essential that the candidate will be extremely well organised and will be required to work in an environment where great importance is placed on following instructions and the ability to request assistance from other team members when a deal requires it.
The successful candidate will have a high level of client interaction, thus must possess strong communication skills (both written and oral), have extremely good attention to detail and be able to work comfortably in a professional environment with tight timetables and multiple deadlines. During the first six months, the successful candidate will be expected to work from the office four days per week to support onboarding, training and integration with the team. After this period, the role will move to our standard hybrid working arrangement.
The responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead liaison with investment banks, legal teams at onshore law firms, local directors of SPVs and registered agents/administrators
- Drafting of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands deal documents from precedents
- Drafting listing documents and liaising with the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange on listings
- Reviewing standard transaction documents from onshore counsel
- Scheduling of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands deal documents to ensure compliance with overall deal timetable. Sensitivity to timing and responsiveness to client needs is key and diarising multiple signings and closings
- Diarising and dealing with processes for multiple weekly closings
- Maintaining a database of all transactions in progress and creating monthly deal flow lists
- Monitoring receivables
- Post-deal completion

- The ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including executives, managers, and subject matter experts
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Solid commercial background gained through experience at a reputed Magic Circle/City Firm or investment bank is preferred
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong customer service, problem solving and teamwork abilities
- Effective communicator and confident in client interaction
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
