About the Role

  • Responsible for leading the compliance function of the Luxembourg law firm
  • Maintaining and developing, in line with regulatory and supervisory developments, the firm’s suite of compliance policies and procedures to ensure that the firm remains compliant with relevant jurisdictional regulatory and financial crime compliance requirements
  • Executing the ongoing compliance monitoring program including new matter opening, periodic reviews, sanctions controls and the maintenance of appropriate internal logs and registers
  • Act as the firm’s primary point of liaison for interaction with the Barreau de Luxembourg and the CRF
  • Liaising with external parties where appropriate and be primary point of contact for interaction with the CCBL of the Barreau de Luxembourg and the CRF / other law enforcement agencies
  • Delivering the compliance training programme to all staff as appropriate regarding financial crime obligations applicable to the activities of law firms in Luxembourg
  • Reporting to senior management of the law firm and the Regional Head of Compliance on a regular basis concerning compliance trends and issues
  • Providing compliance-related advisory and guidance to all staff and dealing with escalations from both the client-facing and internal areas of the business; and
  • Establishing strong communication lines with all Maples employees, in particular the lines of business and the Global Risk and Compliance Team

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and French
  • Experience of conveying messages effectively to all levels of all staff
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise quickly and effectively, including the ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion
  • Strong track record of face-to-face managerial experience of teams
  • Practical knowledge of Luxembourg financial crime compliance, data protection and outsourcing laws and regulations
  • Experience of the supervisory framework applicable to members of the Barreau de Luxembourg is preferred
  • A recognised compliance qualification (ACAMS/International Compliance Association Diploma) and/or have three years’ previous experience in a similar role
