Position Summary

Position duties include but are not limited to coordinating and assisting technicians with repair and/or maintenance service of all new and rental equipment in the shop and on customer job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, motivates, and provides leadership for the technicians including performance evaluations, paid time off, assessing skills and competencies. Administering policy and procedures as it relates to the staff. Coaching, mentoring, and training to assure development of technical skills and employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Coordinates the workflow by assigning jobs (shop and customer site) to the appropriate technicians according to the technician’s schedule and expertise. Communicates expectations of time and ensures that jobs are completed within the required time frame.
  • Assists technicians in completing assigned work of repairs, service maintenance and/or verifying routine maintenance verses customer damage including assisting with repair related problems; verifying the quality of work by setting high quality standards of repair and measuring conformance for the standards; providing on the job training and completing repairs personally as assigned.
  • Maintains the shop area and equipment, including keeping the shop area and equipment clean, organized and in good working order and suggesting equipment replacement when needed to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Assists in accomplishing the department’s goals by sharing responsibility for customer satisfaction, rework, quality, turnover, employee satisfaction, etc. and controlling expenses in relationship to volume.
  • Performs customer service duties to establish positive, cooperative, working relationships with customers, including providing customers with specific information regarding work to be performed on their equipment.
  • Eliminates the cause of errors that result in customer dissatisfaction and financial matters, including promoting safety within the department.
  • Equipment deadline is to be maintained at or below 1% of fleet cost. Deadline reports should be submitted to the Branch Manager daily.
  • Maintenance files are to be updated daily.
  • Preventative maintenance program followed as to 10% due for service or below, 0% over 120 days.
  • Internal shop repair orders are due to be completed and on the manager’s desk daily.
  • The shop deadline, service line, and equipment staging area to be kept clean and well organized.
  • Check delivery trucks every week for maintenance.
  • Walk the ready line daily to ensure proper maintenance is being performed.
  • Do minor repairs, A-inspections, direct washing of equipment, maintain a clean office, oversee cleanliness of shipping and parts room.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through a high school education or the equivalent with additional training preferred through a vocational school.
  • 2+ years of work-related experience in an industry related technical function, preferably with Caterpillar, supervisory experience and a working knowledge of shop tooling procedures and capabilities or the equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, non-verbal, listening and presentation skills.
  • Strong customer service skills with basic prospecting skills and the ability to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.
  • A strong knowledge of the product and a good knowledge of the product market with a strong respect for the Caterpillar/vendor influence.
  • Good creative thinking, decision-making and goal setting skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including influence, negotiation, coaching and counseling.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to administer warranties and interpret and apply policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
  • A good ability to manage change and conflict and basic interviewing, performance evaluation and project management skills.
  • A good ability to operate industry specific PC and main frame programs with a basic understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and database systems.
  • The ability to uphold professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance and friendly, courteous treatment of peers, subordinates, and customers.
