Analyst - Rental Services Parts Inventory

Summary Position
This position will provide support for the Rental Services parts and service operations in Indiana and Michigan, ensuring product availability and minimizing inventory costs for all branches. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring part detail accuracy and parts inventory control.
Position Duties/Responsibilities
- Act as process expert pertaining to parts operations at Rental branches by assisting on branch projects focused on improving, organizing, and setting up parts departments. Assist in training parts department employees, ensuring branch parts processes are in line with inventory control processes.
- Assist in accomplishing the department’s financial goals by recognizing and analyzing potential sales opportunities, including suggesting associated replacement parts; suggesting new product ideas; and sharing responsibility for all results, including profitability, customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.
- Assist management in the purchasing process by researching, compiling, and pricing parts information, as necessary.
- Analyze parts inventory health for all branches, reviewing turns, parts aging, and potential dead stock. Manage buy back process for dead stock with vendors.
- Identify savings opportunities for parts with high volume consumption, negotiating with vendors on volume pricing, communicate pricing with branches and track adherence.
- Assist branch management in the throughput of operations by reviewing open work orders/POs and backordered parts. Identify long lead times and research avenues for alternative sourcing.
- Continuously maintain accuracy and consistency of part numbers in RentalMan by reviewing duplicates, cross references, and alternate vendor information.
- Continuously review new potential vendors to maintain best in class parts quality and lowest owning and operating costs.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with vendors to resolve customer complaints to ensure customer satisfaction; provide ongoing evaluation of vendors used.
- Assist in managing Rental parts stock levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through a high school education or the equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years’ related experience in a parts, field service, or shop repair environment as a mechanic, field technician, foreman, parts/counter person, etc. or the equivalent. Caterpillar and customer service experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the product and product market, with a working knowledge of the product’s location on the machine and the product’s function and service interval requirements.
- Good communication skills, including excellent listening, strong verbal, good non-verbal and basic written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills; good prospecting skills; and the ability to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.
- Strong decision-making skills with good creative thinking skills.
- An excellent ability to operate industry specific programs and Microsoft Office software.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including influence, negotiation, coaching and counseling.
- Good project management skills with a basic ability to manage change.
Difficulty of Work and Responsibility
Incumbent works under direct supervision performing fairly routine duties that require little discretionary judgment. The incumbent uses guidelines and policies and procedures that are generally easy to interpret and apply. The incumbent’s work is reviewed on a regular basis by management. Detailed and technical instructions are given for special projects or upon request. The incumbent has no supervisory authority but is responsible for the health and safety of employees and customers in the parts counter area. The most serious consequences from an error in judgment or procedure could impact financial matters, productivity, safety, customer relations, and/or company reputation.

- Frequent use of near and far vision acuity. Must be able to identify objects within two feet or less and at a distance of 20 feet.
