Position Summary

Lumen is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join the Assay Development team. The role will support a wide diversity of projects with a focus on characterizing therapeutic product stability.
 
This Lab Technician is responsible for assisting in assay development, setup, processing, and analysis of Lumen’s products, with particular emphasis on evaluating product activity overtime. Activities include optimizing assays, meticulously generating and labeling samples, carrying out a sample testing plan, and analyzing results. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and meticulous laboratory record keeping. In addition, effective communication, flexibility, and teamwork skills are crucial in coordinating and in raising quality or troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The major tasks for this position are as follows:
  • Assisting in protocol development, including automation
  • Generating precisely labeled samples
  • Reliably following established protocols and analysis procedures
  • Identifying and helping troubleshoot issues
  • Maintaining an accurate and well-organized electronic laboratory notebook
  • Willingness to learn new techniques, protocols, instruments, and software
  • Working in a group setting and collaborating with various teams in the organization
  • Respecting laboratory safety policies and practices
  • Lab Technicians are expected to support Lab Operations with 10% of their time

Desired and Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Non-academic experience carrying out molecular assays
  • Background/knowledge in biology or scientific field
  • Experience using lab automation preferred
  • Experience evaluating biochemical assay performance preferred
The successful candidate will have the following attributes
  • Comfortable proficiently performing routine assays
  • Comfortable occasionally working with BSL2 samples
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable engaging with members of the team in experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Work well independently and in collaboration across various teams in the organization.
  • Self-starter, able to contribute effectively in a fast-changing environment

Physical Requirements  
  • Sit for extended periods of time (2 or more hours)
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 20 kg
  • Safely use stepstools and step ladders in accordance with Lumen’s workplace safety policies
  • Perform delicate manual procedures in the laboratory 
The pay rate for this role is $25 per hour + stock bonus.
