Lumen Bioscience is a privately held, clinical-stage, biopharma company and was founded in 2017 with a vision to use genetically engineered spirulina—the common food algae sold in grocery stores—to make and deliver biologic drugs (protein therapeutics, mostly) directly to gastrointestinal, airway, and topical surfaces. This includes antibodies, peptides, enzymes, cytokines, and recombinant vaccine antigens. Therapeutic areas of interest encompass infectious diseases, cardiometabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases, and enzyme deficiencies.

 Summary:

The HR Generalist will be the first point of contact for all human resources support. We are looking for someone that provides high-touch customer service, is eager to be a part of a growing team with an innovative biotech company and welcomes the opportunity to advance and grow within the HR field. Successful candidates will be well versed in multiple areas of HR and used to working in fast-paced environments. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *

Payroll & Benefits:

  • Assist with payroll functions such as processing monthly payrolls for all employees, ensuring accurate entry into the payroll system, proper calculations of wages and benefits deductions.
  • Administer all employee benefits such as health insurance, 401(k), and flexible spending plans to include enrollments, changes and terminations.
  • Manage annual benefits renewal end-to end.
  • Own all compliance with HR regulations, COBRA, FMLA, WA PFML, ACA, and workers compensation. Make recommendations and update processes as needed.

 

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Oversee all new hire integration into organization such as:
    • Pre-boarding: first point of contact upon offer to new hire, offering practical support and addressing questions, coordinating new hire documents and setting up for successful first day at Lumen.
    • Running new hire orientations and coordinating meetings with other stakeholders within the company
    • Rehaul current onboarding program; create new hire journeys and onboarding plans that are department specific and/or role specific, create collateral to support new hire success, implement buddy programs, introduce department orientations, etc.
    • Monitor the progress and integration of new employees, proactively checking in with new hires and providing support as needed.

 

HR Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records and documentation
  • Participates as a member of the Safety committee and acts as a liaison to and from organization staff regarding communication, compliance, etc.
    • Proactively create streamlined safety processes that HR should own.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.

 

Employee Relations

  • In partnership with VP, HR, investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution.

 

Other Projects:

  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives, contributing your experience and helping the team achieve strategic goals. Projects can include:
    • Re-launch of Lumen Wellness Program
    • Implementation of new HR technologies
    • Training & Development
    • Employee Engagement
    • Rewards & Recognition

Physical Requirements:

  • This role is required to be onsite 80% of the time to provide a visible HR presence and enable real time engagement and solutions
  • Sit for extended periods of time (2 or more hours)
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 20 kg

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, new technologies
  • Strong skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • HR Technology Experience (Payroll, HRIS, ATS), preferred experience with ADP
  • Implementation of HR systems a plus (HRIS, ATS, Payroll)

 The successful employee will have the following attributes:

  • Strong skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • HR Technology Experience (Payroll, HRIS, ATS), experience with ADP preferred
  • A willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and dive into the work deeply, comfortable with operating in a lean staffing environment
  • Detail-oriented personality
Salary Range:
  • $75,000-$85,000 *this salary range is dependent on experience
