Position Summary

The Virtual Production Producer is responsible for overseeing and managing virtual productions projects in SF. Partners and collaborates with ILM R&D, ADG, Disney Research, ILM’s global stages, virtual production tech leads and immersive experiences teams.

Working in partnership with the Virtual Production Producer in London, they are responsible for ensuring internal and external clients are well served, on time, and in budget.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Producer on non-VFX Virtual Production Projects (Anyma, Medusa, Stagecraft, etc.)
  • Provide clients with estimates of budget and schedule requirements needed to complete the work
  • Prepare bid letter, key dates schedule, and assumptions for the work of a specific project(s)
  • During production, serve as principal client contact on US based projects for non-creative/technical issues, tracking and reporting progress of work, budgeting and negotiating cost of work and delivering cost/schedule changes to ensure client is updated as needed
  • Direct supervision of day-to-day operations of assigned production staff
  • Initiate costs controls for each production. Work with production accountants to provide management with early, consistent, and accurate EFC reporting
  • Participate and oversee work at the SF stage and on set, as required. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the SF Stage and crew of Virtual Production TD’s, stage operators, and technicians
  • Partner with ILM Production to determine appropriate staff plus resource availability and subsequently work with the APM to manage project and schedule staff and resources. Proactively resolve over-subscription conflicts
  • Partner with Senior Virtual Production Supervisor and Executive Producer on Virtual Production Business strategy
  • Drive the establishment of standards and practices for both the SF & London stage teams to ensure global practices
  • Collaborate with other Virtual Production Producers to create and maintain rate cards for various capture techniques offered by ILM global Virtual Production
  • Establish, support, and promote ILM's best practices across ILM SF portfolio
  • Liaise with facilities to ensure the smooth operation of the SF stage and apply best practices globally as required
  • Manage the bidding process for stage support (personnel and equipment) on all game, immersive, and feature projects. Maintain rate cards for various on-set services
  • Communicate on a daily basis with in-house feature and immersive productions and outside vendors on schedule, technology set-up, hardware and software needs, purchasing and financial/budget implications
  • Drive the building of roadmaps, ensuring smooth communication and technology transfer between technology teams and capture teams
  • Oversee APM in the set up and execution of pre-pro shoot meetings to ensure communication among client and stage staff
  • Maintain the relationship with virtual production engineering groups (ADG and ILM R&D); assure smooth transition of new features in the global virtual production workflow
  • Communicate globally to schedule technicians and operators for specific ILM stage and physical production challenges, especially those going on set that require travel and equipment shipping
  • Oversee and collaborate with APM, Coordinator, and/or PA to ensure location equipment process is smooth
  • Ensure that the production has qualified, trained personnel to fill roles on a day-to-day basis as needed. Book outside contract services when needed i.e. Camera Operators, Talent, Stunt Coordinators, Grips, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Department Leads & Director of Studio Technology on the Annual Operating Plan. Track spending to budget throughout the fiscal year and proactively communicates the status
  • Collaborate with the Senior Virtual Production Supervisor and Performance Capture Supervisor in providing guidance to production as to the appropriate methodologies/processes to be used on various types of capture. Working together, implement new technologies and procedures as required maintaining high efficiency and safety levels
  • Perform special projects as required on an ongoing basis

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Film, Art, Communications or related field or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience required working in a Production Facility
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in a production management or project management role with strong leadership skills. Must have bidding and scheduling experience
  • Experience working in a technology department or environment with familiarity of software development project management a plus

Required Skills / Competencies

  • An interest in and enthusiasm for cutting edge real-time graphics technologies and performance capture techniques
  • Knowledge of traditional stage department roles/activities preferred

Required Technical Skills

  • Excellent computer skills including: Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, GoogleDocs, Box
  • Previous experience with databases
  • Familiarity with using Jira
  • Familiarity with on set Virtual Production Technology, Motion Capture Tech and Software a plus
