Position Summary

We are looking for an Asset Artist who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that defines ILM.

The Asset Artist is responsible for models, textures and doing a 1st pass lookdev on all types of assets using a range of scans, art and photography as reference, plus their own imagination. Assets created are for use on ILM's Stagecraft LED walls, previs and in production.

What You’ll Do

  • Model and texture three-dimensional hard surface assets as either polygon or subdivision geometry, like mechanical objects, environments and props
  • Process, edit and use scans and photogrammetry to rapidly create environments and set extensions
  • Work closely with a team of artists, leads and supervisors to determine the aesthetic and technical needs of an asset
  • 1st pass lookdev and shader assignment for assets
  • Partner with supervision and production team to generate assets within the time frames required
  • As part of a team, create larger environments and sets including the creation of assets, layout and dressing sets with props and other elements. Work with multiple departments, use different workflows and pipelines based on the project's needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Portfolio of work demonstrating model and texture skill set on a variety of assets
  • Strong communication skill set and a great attitude to get stuck in on any task
  • Flexible team player
  • Hungry to learn and pick up new tools
  • Knowledge of the VFX pipeline, how your work relates to and affects the other team members around you.
  • Ability to approach the same asset differently when given different time lines and levels of expectation
  • Knowledge of Maya, Zbrush, Reality capture (or other photogrammetry software), Mari, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer
  • Nice to have:
    • Lookdev experience
    • Experience in VFX, commercials, previs or pre production and/or an ability to use Houdini, 3Ds Max, Unreal
    • Experience modeling and texturing digital doubles and creatures
