Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have 6+ months of professional experience in dog training
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Ability to read and promote positive canine play
  • Must have a confident and assertive demeanor to help maintain control over the dogs
  • Knowledge in positive command reinforcement and behavioral exercises
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have a love for dogs
  • Must have a keen sense for creating and maintaining a safe environment
  • Must be observant


Essential Job Functions

The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Use a variety of positive learning techniques for dog behavioral changes, including a combination of operant conditioning through positive reinforcement and desensitization – examples: clicker training, hand signals, verbal cues, and reward systems
  • Partner with Lead Dog Trainer on projects such as assigning homework exercises for the dog and parent to work on between sessions
  • Follows safe practices, policies and procedures designated for Day School to facilitate appropriate play and enrichment activities for adult dogs and puppies
  • Works on various exercises and activities with puppies on behavioral development
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for all pets
  • Conduct potential customer consultations and build clientele for the Day School
  • Supervise dogs of all sizes and breeds in an off-leash group play environment
  • Positively interact with pet parents in person, via email, text, and phone


Physical Demands

  • Position requires person to be both indoors and outdoors (to assist with customer carry out)
  • Majority of day is spent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Must be comfortable working with a wide variety of animals including small and large dogs 
  • Must be able to work around pet hair and dander
