Position:             Manager, Continuous Improvement (CI)

The Manager, Continuous Improvement (CI) ensures that the continuous improvement of processes and procedures are maintained and sustained in throughout the organization. This position works closely with other business units and external business partners to identify opportunities and recommend and implement integrated solutions that align with the company’s business strategy using a best practice methodology to deliver results. Using their understanding of the business and knowledge of industry, this role provides ongoing analysis and insights related to operational strategies including labor, inventory and productivity efficiencies.

Using lean methodologies, they will oversee the modeling and quantifying of processes, equipment and methods to maximize efficiencies, reduce costs and improve guest satisfaction and the Team Member experience. The Manager will ensure that documentation of current and future state processes using process flow mapping is completed, as well as the development of the required standard operating procedures for standardization.

Accountabilities: 

  • Manages the performance of continuous improvement service providers and consultants
  • Supports the discovery, development and execution of lean process opportunities, that optimize overall business performance and execution.
  • Develops and recommends organization-wide plans and programs that achieve results that support business objectives.
  • Support business units in execution of business plans in the areas of merchandising, shrink reduction, labour optimization and waste reduction
  • Investigate, model and quantify changes to processes, equipment and preferred methods
  • Optimizes business tools to gain better efficiencies and financial benefits.
  • Ensures benchmarks and sell through reporting are completed on a regularly scheduled basis and KPIs and targets are established
  • Develops, delivers, and continuously improves Team Member training
  • Supports, mentors, coaches, and trains direct reports to maintain the highest level of productivity, nurturing top talent
  • Creating a highly engaged team by soliciting and providing feedback on ways to improve
  • Providing support, training, and leadership to the Continuous Improvement Coaches

Key Knowledge, Skills and Credentials:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with continuous improvement / lean principle experience or equivalent
  • University degree preferably in Industrial Engineering, Economics, Commerce, Business, Math / Computer Sciences or Engineering, OR equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of lean operating principles and experience in analysis and development of methods, standards and procedures, workflow design, layout and cost control.
  • Experience working in retail and / or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools. Certified Six Sigma Black Belts or Green Belts preferred.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills working with all levels within the organization
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple demands and be responsive to continuous change, strong sense of urgency
  • Project management and team leadership skills.
  • High Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
