Position:    Culinary Innovation Centre, Team Captain

 Job Overview:

The Culinary Innovation Centre, Team Captain position is located at the Longo’s Support Centre. It is the food hub for Support Centre, Central Kitchen & Distribution Centre team members as well as visitors. This position reports to the Manager of Culinary Innovation and is responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Market Café . This role acts as a liaison between the company’s head office and stores and will provide direction, technical expertise, and training to support the successful execution of in-store merchandising plans, initiatives, financial KPIs.

What you’ll do:

    Oversee the management of the Market Cafe

    Work closely with the Manager of Culinary Innovation to deliver superior programs to our stores 

    Ensure quality food delivery, and catering service, set up and clean up of catering events, Private brand cuttings and presentation of all areas 

    Assist with creating new food concepts, ideas and flavours

    This position will continuously look for ways to enhance processes and methods to support production and continue to keep our prepared foods menu current and innovative.

    Responsible for creating innovative and exciting programs 

     Builds profitable and sustainable products and processes that are inspired through travel, shows, social media, restaurants, chefs and other industry trends.

    Provide direct oversight of market café financials, menu, staffing needs and training.

    Foster a “Foodie” and “Hospitality” culture through their creation of innovative kitchen prepared foods and great service. 

    Collaborate with manufacturers (research and development) to develop memorable meal solutions.

    Help Longo’s continue to be a leader in innovation and in key emerging trends in prepared foods.

    Maintain the overall cleanliness of the Cafe 

What we are looking for:

    Post-secondary education 

    Minimum of 1 year of food retail experience in a kitchen environment with focus on preparation of main course dishes 

    An energetic, motivated leader who is able to inspire others to provide the highest standards of performance and customer service 

    Knowledge in the areas of food service, team management, team motivator, catering, leadership, human resources, organizational development and cost management.

    Strong leadership skills with ability to lead, coach and develop others

    Appropriate knowledge of maintenance and care of equipment, materials and supplies

    Knowledge of temperature control and food safety 

Work Environment:

    Must have own transportation, public transportation is NOT available to the work location

    Availability to work Monday to Friday 

    Ability to lift up to 30 - 50 lbs

    Cooking near hot stoves/loading and unloading in fridge/freezer environment 

    Fast paced, customer service focused, high pressure situations with tight deadlines
