Position: Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A

 

Job Overview:

 

The Senior Financial Analyst is a key contributor to delivering on the objectives of the overall Finance team. Overall responsibility includes business partnering, financial planning, analysis, collaborative strategic thinking, reporting and financial accounting for the Merchandising & Distribution Centre teams.  The incumbent will be the liaison between the business units they support and the Finance team and will work collaboratively to support, recommend, influence and deliver strong financial results.

 

Accountabilities:

Business Planning and Partnership:

  • Lead the budget and forecast processes for the respective areas of responsibility of the P&L
  • Collaborate within Finance on delivering a balanced and succinct budget and forecast for the total company
  • Support with the 5-year strategic planning and cash flow forecast
  • Present financial budgets and forecasts to Senior Leadership team members and Executive Steering Committee. Establish a strong rapport with the business partners by:
  • Mutual exchange of knowledge and sharing best practices
  • Understanding and responding to the needs and urgencies of the business / projects
  • Focus on exceeding the expectations and requirements of the end customer
  • Strengthen financial acumen of business partners through education, training and mentoring
  • Make actionable recommendations that drive financial performance and guest experience

 

Financial Analysis and Monitoring:

  • Provide analysis on a monthly basis (comparison to budget and PY)
  • Proactive identification and timely communication of trends, risks & opportunities
  • Partner with Merchandising leaders on department penetration and margin analysis, pricing strategies
  • Support Private Brands team on developing and measuring against penetration and margin targets
  • Oversee financial analysis and business cases supporting work streams and initiatives
  • Make recommendations for integrated strategies that positively impact Longo’s financial results
  • Provide financial guidance and coaching to business partners
  • Support with business cases and drive towards maximising ROI of business initiatives

 

Project Support:

  • Represent Finance on cross functional projects
  • Actively support in the development of business cases, including identification of all benefits and costs
  • Drive towards maximising ROI of business projects
  • Play a key role in identification and tracking of KPIs that measure project success
  • Liaison between business and Finance to communicate project status and success
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and issue resolution
  • Support the teams on the various Empire and Longo’s synergy streams

 

Accounting, Reporting and Systems

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities for Merchandising and Distribution Centre including reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations on a period basis
  • Responsibility for various reporting requirements for Longo’s and to Empire each period and quarter end
  • Actively support period close, quarter end and year-end activities specific to area of responsibility
  • Collaborate with the Accounting team to ensure accurate and efficient financial results and variance analysis at period close
  • Support the Accounting team with year-end audit requirements, specific to the incumbent’s areas of responsibility
  • Generates scheduled and ad hoc reporting and analyses as required to assist management in decision making

 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • Post-secondary University degree in Business or Finance
  • Accounting designation or similar designation required (CPA)
  • 5-7+ years of progressive finance/accounting/analytical experience, preferably in a multi-unit retail environment
  • Advanced experience in providing financial support and analysis to cross functional teams for projects and business opportunities through financial modeling
  • Extensive experience coordinating and preparing budgets and latest estimates and positively impacting the financial results by making value add recommendations
  • Working knowledge of ASPE, IFRS, internal controls and finance/business best practices
  • Experience with data management and reporting software tools
  • Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Working knowledge for VBA for Excel is highly desirable
