Position:  Production Facility Manager
  
Job Overview:
 
The Manager, Production Facility leads production teams and oversees the day-to-day operation of Longo’s Central Kitchen. Reporting to the General Manager, Central Kitchen and working in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, to improve operations, ensure consistent quality product is provided. This role will direct daily plant activities for the production teams to meet or exceed targets and objectives through productivity, focus on working safely, Team Member performance. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance to food safety and health and safety standards. This role provides leadership and development to Team Members and mentorship in the use of production and manufacturing tools as we strive to improve efficiency and service to our stores & partners.
 
Accountabilities:
 
Leadership and People Management:
Demonstrates Genuine Merchant Leadership and People Management by:

  • Hiring, motivating, and developing team members by providing regular feedback and completing performance appraisals with objectives supporting the CK success
  • Ensures that team members understand and comply with company standards, policies and procedures including health and safety, loss prevention, food safety and human resource policies i.e., Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy
  • Coaches and trains team members to maintain the highest level of personal and team productivity by ensuring strong technical skills and on-going product knowledge
  • Conducts regular Team Member meetings to ensure strong communication on company initiatives, goals and objectives
  • Assists in the overall CK operations
 
Production Management:
  • Works closely with Team to optimize production efficiency, cost and shrink reduction, inventory turns and ingredients use

 

  • Responsible for volume planning, managing cost and supplies, and labour  

 

  • Supports Manager Applications and Processes to schedule and review production for new and existing items and SOP preparation and execution
  • Manages preparation of food for store orders ensuring quality and labour standards are met and responsible for store communication if supply is disrupted
  • Oversees daily and weekly room production to ensure store orders are met
  • With support of Captain and Senior Clerks, activate new lines to ensure they are produced safely and efficiently in order to meet the labour standards
  • Working with the warehouse, ensures fill rate and order fulfillment is being met
  • Along with the Manager of Applications and Processes, develops and implements efficient production processes, and actions Team Member feedback in the areas of production efficiency and opportunities

 

  • Coaches and manages Team Members to achieve productivity standards and expectations
  • Provides Continuous Improvement leadership and facilitation and provides guidance, support and direction for all improvement projects and daily operations 
 
Planning and Scheduling:
  • Approves and posts production schedules for Team Members in a timely manner
  • Ensures scheduling of team members is optimized and adjusts according to demand, trends, seasons, promotions and holidays
  • Looks for opportunities to increase productivity in order to achieve labour standards
  • Follows up to ensure team member’s weekly schedules are in system ensuring hours worked and wages are accurate and manages overtime accordingly
  • Works in conjunction with Inventory Team to ensure food and packaging orders have been placed 
 
Food Safety and Maintenance:
  • Follows up on all matters related to sanitation, food safety, preventative maintenance and housekeeping.  Works closely with third party provider to ensure sanitation, and cleaning standards are being met
  • Encourages team members to operate equipment with a bias for improving maintenance and reliability
  • Follows up on all SOPs, policies and required systems and paperwork to reduce risk and product recalls  
  • Manages all quality and food safety related issues and liaise with the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team on strategy and problem solving 
 
Customer Service:
  • Ensures positive customer service relations with a variety of internal customers such as: Department Managers, DC/ Warehouse Manager and Supervisors, head office departments, external vendors and partners and government regulators
  • Responds and resolves problems arising in customer orders and/or delivery
 
Health and Safety:
  • Promotes and endorses Safety Vision “Safety is our way of life”
  • Observes and supports Longo’s Safe Work guidelines and other safe work practices
  • Role models the importance of health and safety by always working safely, calling out and addressing safety issues
  • Recognizes risks which may pose a danger to Team Members and customers and resolves such issues (where possible) or modifies work, minimizing the risk to Team Member/customer until resolution can be sourced and implemented
  • Ensures all pre-use checks (where applicable) are conducted and all equipment is maintained to provide for safe operation by Team Members
  • Ensures that TMs are trained to work safely and ensures that all work is safely carried out by Team Members
 
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Post-secondary preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in food production/manufacturing
  • At least 2 years in a management or leadership capacity
  • Hands-on knowledge of kitchen equipment and standard recipes
  • Familiar with food cost control and products
  • Ability to develop and implement tactical plans
  • Proficient in budgeting skills
  • General understanding of the grocery and prepared foods industries
  • Completion of Lean Six Sigma is preferred
  • Successful completion of Food Safety certification course (offered by Longo’s)
  • Successful completion of JHSC training Level 1 and 2 (offered by Longo’s)
  • Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Suite, Excel, Work and PowerPoint
  • Problem Solving - Creative and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Organization Skills - Must be able to prioritize work requests and handle multiple tasks
  • Time Management – Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility - Flexible and adapt easily to changes in work setting or schedules

Working Conditions:
  • The temperature of the facility ranges from 2 degrees C to 26 degrees C. It is a cold and wet environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities with regular deadlines
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
