Position: Production Supervisor

Job Overview:

The Production Supervisor leads production teams and oversees the day-to-day operation of designated production rooms within Central Kitchen. With the support of the Production Manager and working in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, to improve operations, ensure consistent quality product is provided. This role will direct daily production activities for designated teams to complete required tasks for production. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance to food safety and health and safety standards. The role works closely with the Production Manager to provide leadership in the use of production and manufacturing tools as we strive to improve efficiency and service to our stores & partners.

Accountabilities:

Leadership and People Management

Demonstrates Genuine Merchant Leadership and People Management by:

  • Upholding and modelling the company’s values of Honesty, Trustworthiness, Mutual Respect, and Voglia in all actions and behaviours
  • Training, motivating, and developing team members by providing regular feedback and completing performance appraisals with objectives supporting the CK success
  • Ensures that team members understand and comply with company standards, policies and procedures including health and safety, loss prevention, food safety and human resource policies i.e., Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy 
  • Coaches and trains team members to maintain the highest level of personal and team productivity by ensuring strong technical skills and on-going product knowledge
  • Assists the Production Manager in the overall CK operations

Production Management

  • Works closely with Production Manager to optimize production efficiency, cost and shrink reduction, inventory turns and ingredients use
  • Responsible to execute plans to managing cost and supplies, and labour    
  • Manages preparation of food for store orders ensuring quality and labour standards are met and responsible for store communication if supply is disrupted 
  • Oversees daily and weekly production in designated rooms to ensure store orders are met
  • With support of clerks and leads producing to ensure they are produced safely and efficiently to meet the labour standards 
  • Coaches and manages Team Members to achieve productivity standards and expectations
  • Provides Continuous Improvement leadership and facilitation and provides guidance, support and direction for daily operations 

Planning and Scheduling

  • Approves and posts production schedules for Team Members in a timely manner
  • Ensures scheduling of team members is optimized and adjusts according to demand, trends, seasons, promotions and holidays
  • Looks for opportunities to increase productivity in order to achieve labour standards
  • Follows up to ensure team member’s weekly schedules are in system ensuring hours worked and wages are accurate and manages overtime accordingly 
  • Works in conjunction with Inventory Team to ensure food and packaging orders have been placed 

Food Safety and Maintenance

  • Follows up on all matters related to sanitation, food safety, preventative maintenance and housekeeping.  
  • Follows up on all SOPs, policies and required systems and Cheftec paperwork to reduce risk and product recalls 
  • Manages all quality and food safety related issues and liaise with the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team on strategy and problem solving 

Customer Service

  • Ensures positive customer service relations with a variety of internal customers such as: Department Managers, DC/ Warehouse Manager and Supervisors, head office departments, external vendors and partners and government regulators
  • Responds and resolves problems arising in customer orders and/or delivery 

Health and Safety

  • Promotes and endorses Safety Vision “Safety is our way of life”
  • Observes and supports Longo’s Safe Work guidelines and other safe work practices
  • Role models the importance of health and safety by always working safely, calling out and addressing safety issues
  • Recognizes risks which may pose a danger to Team Members and customers and resolves such issues (where possible) or modifies work, minimizing the risk to Team Member/customer until resolution can be sourced and implemented
  • Ensures all pre-use checks (where applicable) are conducted and all equipment is maintained to provide for safe operation by Team Members
  • Ensures that TMs are trained to work safely and ensures that all work is safely carried out by Team Members
  • Responsible for Team Members regularly logging onto Axonify and ensures all onboarding and training is completed prior to first shift 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years experience in food production
  • Hands-on knowledge of kitchen equipment and standard recipes
  • General understanding of the grocery and prepared foods industries
  • Successful completion of Food Safety certification course (offered by Longo’s)
  • Successful completion of JHSC training Level 1 and 2 (offered by Longo’s) 
  • Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Suite, Excel, Work and PowerPoint
  • Problem Solving - Creative and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Organization Skills - Must be able to prioritize work requests and handle multiple tasks
  • Time Management – Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility - Flexible and adapt easily to changes in work setting or schedules
  • Communication Skills - Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Team leader/teamwork skills - Ability to work with and direct others
  • Customer Service Skills - Strong customer-service orientation 

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a standard kitchen environment with participation in meetings.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities with regular deadlines 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
