Position Purpose 
As a LONG PLC/SCADA Controls Technician, you will support customers by troubleshooting and programming PLC/SCADA based Control Systems for a variety of industries and applications with a heavy emphasis on HVAC Controls based on specific project and system specifications.  Using your expertise with PLC/SCADA Controls systems, you will perform installation, maintenance, warranty, scheduled service, and emergency services on installed customer systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program PLC/SCADA systems for all supported systems to meet specified sequences of operation and equipment manufacturers recommendations, in accordance with LONG standards and contract documents.
  • Perform configuration, check-out and startup of control systems to ensure that specified sequence of operations and commissioning obligations are met.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as cleaning, part replacements, program updates, or system optimizations to minimize the risk of failures and malfunctions.
  • Utilize industrial experience to troubleshoot any issues with systems to identify and implement solutions.
  • Effectively communicate with customers to answer any inquiries, offer guidance, and resolve technical issues.
  • Educate system users about proper function and upkeep to products.
  • Supply information to customers about investing in necessary replacements or vital repairs that are key components to devices.
  • Keep a record of all repairs and maintenance and properly report issues to the technical supervisor.
  • Instruct customer’s personnel on operation and maintenance of PLC/SCADA control systems and energy conversation routines in PLC/SCADA based Building Automation Systems.
  • Provide information to update drawings and keep records of equipment for as-built documentation (submit all redlined drafting to application engineers).
  • Advise service sales manager of additional sales potential and solicits service contracts while performing start-up, commissioning, and owner training tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.  
Qualifications  
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • 2 years of computer/electronic technical degree and 1 year PLC/SCADA system start-up, checkout, and service experience or 3-5 years PLC/SCADA system start-up, checkout, and service experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of PLC/SCADA control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, facility automation, engineering, installation, and construction/assembly procedures. 
  • Proficient programming and troubleshooting skills with PLC/SCADA systems, and other equivalent systems. 
  • An aptitude for controllers and/or mechanical equipment and a strong drive to self-teach and expand knowledge of different systems.
  • Strong analytical skills in solving software and integration challenges. 
  • Ability to interpret P&ID’s, mechanical plans, specifications, and SOO for a variety of applications.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple tasks simultaneously and willingness to accept responsibility and accountability. 
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills. 
  • Possesses effective communication skills (written and verbal). 
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, installation, and construction procedures.
  • Programming and troubleshooting skills with Rockwell Studio 5000, and other equivalent PLC programming software platforms.
  • Integration, startup, configuration and troubleshooting skills with AVEVA System Platform, Wonderware Intouch, FactoryTalk SE, PanelView ME and other equivalent SCADA software platforms.
  • Initial startup and troubleshooting of PanelView and other HMI systems.
  • Computer programming, technical degree, or PLC/SCADA proficiency certifications.

Physical Requirements 
  • This work may involve standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces.
  • This position may include lifting to 50 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor. 
  • Ability to climb ladders and function at heights. 
Environment 
  • Inside and outside work environments.
  • Industrial operational environments.
  • Up to 10% in state travel required.  
Hazards 
  • High precarious places.
  • General construction, manufacturing facility, and distribution center worksite hazards.
  • Driving in inclement weather conditions.
