Position Purpose
As a LONG controls work-based learning Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with our Building Automation Systems (BAS) team. You will assist with various tasks including ordering materials, learning shipping and receiving practices, and supporting the installation of control system devices. You will also learn how to design BAS systems, assemble control panels, and assist electricians in installing system wiring. This role offers exposure to a variety of tasks, such as using Visio software to update control drawings, and performing point-to-point verification of equipment. You will have opportunities to travel to job sites, collaborate with experienced technicians, and support day-to-day operations within the building automation field.
 
Pay range: $16 - $18 per hr. 
 
Part time, no benefits. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the BI administration team learning about ordering materials, billing and booking processes
  • Working to learn shipping and receiving practices. Help stocking shelves pulling parts for field personnel and parts customers. Assist with the installation of control system devices and wiring in accordance with LONG standards and contract documents.
  • Follows instructions on how to design a Building Automation system using Visio software and how to record final as-built drawings at the completion of a project. This will include changing material and equipment schedules & wiring diagrams on Control Drawings. Assist in design and operations manuals for new projects
  • Learn how to assemble control panels. Includes obtaining the parts from the warehouse, print reading to layout the panel for assembly and then assembling the parts on the back plate.
  • Assist our Electricians installing wiring for the Building Automation System.
  • Assist with installing building automation software and learn  point-to-point verification of some mechanical equipment
  • Travel to job sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • OSHA 10
  • Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT)
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Some working knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, installation, and construction procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and willingness to accept responsibility and accountability.
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of personnel to include department managers, project managers, engineers, sales, and controls technicians.
  • Ability to legally drive a company vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrollment in Building Automation Educational Program or similar field of study strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • This work may involve standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces.
  • This position may require lifting to 50 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.
  • This position may require climbing ladders and the ability to function at heights.
