Description

Position Purpose 
The Special Projects Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing control technicians, controls electricians, sub-contractors and leading small projects within the building automation division. This role requires a strong understanding of control systems, project management, and team leadership. The Special Projects Manager will ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. 
 
Pay Range: $45 - $65 per hr. plus potential profit share.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality, consistency, and timely completion of all building intelligence construction activities, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Build an efficient, productive, and motivated technical team through recruitment, training, supervision, leadership, and ongoing support.
  • Oversee and manage small, specialized projects from initiation to completion.
  • Drive department sales and profit goals by effectively supervising installation personnel, optimizing schedules, coordinating departmental activities, and ensuring compliance with codes, specifications, and plans.
  • Resolve low to mid-level customer disputes. 
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors’ installation and in-house electrician's work. 
  • Regularly visit jobs in progress to inspect quality of work performed and to provide training and technical support to field personnel. 
  • Provide technical support to department personnel as required. 
  • Assist with recruiting, retaining, training, and educating direct technical reports. 
  • Consistently ensure OSHA compliance within areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate with other departments to maximize joint workforce utilization and minimize unallocated time. 
  • Assure that no work is performed outside contractual obligations without compensation. 
  • Forecast personnel, equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials and assist with procurement and supervise equipment care. 
  • Remain current on industry and company trends, regulations, laws, building codes, and technology. 
  • Other duties as assigned.  
Qualifications  
  • 2-year technical degree and 5 years temperature controls installation experience preferred, or 7 years temperature controls installation experience.
  • Expertise in programming and troubleshooting KMC, Distech, Tridium/Honeywell, and similar control systems.
  • Ability to legally drive a company vehicle.   
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while taking responsibility and ownership.
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication, along with strong computer proficiency.
  • Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop control technicians. 
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to drive improvements and optimize control system performance. 
  • Strong organizational and planning skills. 
  • Mechanically oriented with a complete understanding of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, installation, management, and construction procedures. 
  • Ability to locate, layout, and mount control devices. 
  • Able to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and control system drawings. 
  • Ability to travel within area of responsibility. Occasional overnight travel required. 
  • Knowledge of LONG’s operations and infrastructure, as it pertains to construction operations and its stakeholders.

  • Analytical skills in solving software and integration challenges.

Physical Requirements 
  • This work may involve standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces.
  • This position may require lifting to 50 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.  
  • This position may require climbing ladders and the ability to function at heights.
