Position Purpose 
As a LONG Lead Service Technician, you will take on a leadership role in maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing complex commercial HVAC systems at an expert level. In this advanced position, you’ll support and guide Service Technicians while partnering closely with Service Manager on high-level tasks in line with LONG’s service standards. Although you will be part of a dedicated team, your role will often require independent, self-directed work. To support you, a company vehicle, mobile phone, and work attire will be provided. Your primary responsibilities will include advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and rapid resolution of HVAC system issues, ensuring exceptional customer service and efficient solutions to complex technical challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Perform advanced and rapid troubleshooting on all commercial HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, economizer, VAV box, and pneumatic controls while working entirely independently.
  • Perform advanced maintenance tasks on commercial HVAC systems, perform in-depth inspections as needed according to LONG’s Service Procedures.
  • Optimize HVAC systems’ performances and energy efficiency.
  • Oversee large-scale installation and retrofit projects.
  • Assist with the training, supervision, and mentoring of Apprentices and less experienced technicians.
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendations to owners and the service team regarding warranty issues or challenging situations with a customer focused attitude
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on difficult installation and start up on commercial HVAC equipment. 
  • Provide guidance to service technicians about system maintenance, troubleshooting issues and equipment recommendations on and off of the jobsite
  • Regularly attend and complete any assigned training courses.
  • Design and implement customer HVAC solutions.
  • Advise managers regarding system deficiencies and/or customer complaints and advises appropriate mechanical service personnel. Advises Service Manager on maintenance status and completion of assigned work
  • Capability to work in confined or tight spaces such as mechanical rooms for installation and repair tasks.
  • Commit to adhering to safety regulations and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others while performing HVAC tasks.
  • Work to ensure that LONG is fairly compensated for all work including that performed outside contractual obligations
  • Ensure code compliance with all technical work performed
  • On-call work may be required on a periodic basis.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications 
  • 7+ years working experience with commercial HVAC systems 
  • Ability to work after-hours when needed.
  • Experience managing large scale HVAC projects
  • Expert knowledge of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or electrical systems.
  • Valid CFC Refrigeration certificate
  • Understand system design, load calculations and energy modeling
  • This position requires the ability to drive a company vehicle safely and legally.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead multiple tasks simultaneously, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members on complex worksite tasks and issues.
  • Strong customer service orientation and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced oral, written, interpersonal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation and organizational skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel) and able to learn additional computer software quickly. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Knowledge of LONG’s system operations and infrastructure, as it pertains to service operations and its stakeholders.

  • This position may involve standing for extended periods and working in tight spaces.
  • This position may require lifting to 75 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor. 
  • This position may require climbing ladders and the ability to function at heights.
  • This position requires the use of personal hand tools.
