Senior ME Prototype Engineer

Position Overview:

Logitech seeks an enthusiastic Senior ME Prototype Engineer to support our engineering, product development, reliability, and R&D teams. The Senior ME Prototype Engineer will develop mechanical 3D models and prototypes to be used for cosmetic and engineering validation. Experience with CAD, 3D printing, woodworking, cosmetic finishing and programming/operation of a CNC mill & CNC Lathe will be required for this position. The materials used in the shop include, but are not limited to wood, metal, plastic, foam, RTV resins, paints, adhesives, and 3D printing materials.

Additional duties will include coordinating safety training for new lab users, enforcing safety and housekeeping standards, and maintaining materials inventory.  Suitable candidates will exemplify a positive, can-do attitude while managing competing priorities and be adept at providing clear and concise communications with project stakeholders across the organization.

  • Coordinating Part Builds

  • Prototype request processing:

    • Communicate with a diverse mix of internal customers to fully understand their needs 

    • Actively discuss open requests, understand their requirements and work to meet their expectations

    • Prioritize workload

    • Track equipment usage and loading

  • CNC Programming and Operation

  • Equipment Maintenance

  • Inventory and Supplier Management:

    • Professional relationship with external suppliers

    • Materials management

    • Cost tracking

  • Fixture Design and Construction

  • Test & Measurement for engineering evaluation

  • Interpreting Technical Drawings and Specifications

Required Skills:

  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong commitment toward safety, coworkers, company guests, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize effectively with minimum supervision

  • Effectively interact and communicate with internal customers/ associates 

  • Detail oriented when completing documentation to ensure accuracy

  • Accurately construct prototype models with required level of precision

  • Legibly writing and recording critical information

  • Flexibility in handling short notice changes in task priorities and requirements

  • Ability to design fixtures, or 3D models supporting engineering requests

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Rapid 3D printing Prototyping 

  • Woodworking

  • Metal Working

  • CNC Mill & Lathe Operation

  • Fixture Design

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling (Creo, or Fusion 360 preferred)

    • Ability to create or modify 3D engineering files

    • Model simple fixtures and add hold down features for machining as required

  • Test Equipment:

    • Zwick or Instron  - materials testing

    • Drop Test

    • Vibration

    • IPX testing

  • Arduino/ Raspberry Pi programming (highly desired)

Desired Experience:

  • Model making

    • Painting

    • Finishing

    • Foam Modeling

  • Urethane & Silicone Casting, and Casting mold design

  • 3D Scanning experience a plus

Must be Familiar with the Following Tools:

  • Woodworking tools

  • 3D Printing Machines (Stratasys Polyjet, Formlabs SLS, SLA, FDM)

  • Drill Press

  • CNC Mill & Lathe:

    • Haas VF-2 SSYT (with 4th axis)

    • Haas TL-1

  • Laser Cutter - non-metal

  • Soldering Iron

  • Painting Equipment

  • Media Blasting

  • Measurement Equipment

  • Must be able to read and analyze data in hard copy and on a computer screen

  • Ability to use variety of hand tools and test equipment

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required in specific areas, such as eye protection,  protective clothing, hearing protection, back supports and respirators

  • Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time

  • Must be able to lift 40 to 50 pounds occasionally

Education and/or Experience:

Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.

Minimum 4-5 years experience in CNC operation, CAD Design, fixture design, and prototype construction is required.

This position offers an annual base salary typically between $ 95,600 and $ 138,700.   In certain circumstances, higher compensation will be considered based on the business need, candidate experience, and skills.
