Head of Firmware Engineering, VC Headset Engineering

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the firmware and DSP engineering for all headset engineering programs
  • Hire, develop and manage the firmware and DSP engineering team
  • Own and drive all firmware and digital signal processing algorithms and implementations across all headset and earbud products
  • Engage and manage external contracting houses as needed
  • Set up and implement platform firmware development processes, design and code review processes, firmware test and release processes as required
  • Work with EE, ME, materials teams and EPM to bring up the product and deliver firmware to meet product requirements
  • Closely work with the UX and PM teams to develop user interface specifications and implement them
  • Closely work with the hardware team to develop manufacturing test specifications and implement them in the production line
  • Travel to the factory location to bring up and resolve issues with the product as necessary


  • Detail-oriented  
  • Deeply technical – should be an expert in developing highly reliable firmware for very small form factor, memory and battery constrained consumer electronics products
  • Deep domain expertise of digital signal processing principles for audio
  • Deep domain expertise in developing memory, processing and power efficient firmware
  • Deep knowledge of BT and BLE standards protocols and profiles
  • Ability to solve problems from understanding of first principles
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines


  • Minimum 15 years of experience
  • Should have taken at least two small form factor consumer electronics products from concept to volume production. Experience in audio consumer electronics products or wearable products preferred
  • Should have prior experience building efficient firmware that optimizes power consumption, processing and memory footprints
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, Masters preferred
