Staff Accountant
Description
Position Summary:
The Staff Loan Accountant supports the Loan Accounting team by recording, reconciling and analyzing loan-related transactions. They keep financial reporting accurate and make sure the company follows trust account rules. This role works closely with Operations and Accounting leadership and gives management accurate, timely financial information.
Responsibilities:
- Review, record and analyze loan accounting transactions, such as loan fundings, payoffs and borrower refunds.
- Maintain loan accounting schedules and support the monthly close, including preparing and posting journal entries to the general ledger.
- Record warehouse line activity, including advances, paydowns and interest. Reconcile warehouse balances to lender statements and research and resolve any differences.
- Reconcile balance sheet and trust accounts. Research and resolve reconciling items promptly.
- Make sure loan-related activity follows trust account rules, company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Work with Operations so that borrower refunds and other open items are resolved accurately and on time.
- Pull data from the general ledger and related systems to prepare reports and spreadsheet analyses for management.
- Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting transaction data.
- Find and help put in place process improvements that make the work more efficient and strengthen controls.
- Support audit requests, special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience. Mortgage or loan accounting experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and account reconciliations.
- Strong Excel skills, and the ability to learn new accounting systems quickly.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with strong analytical and communication skills.
- This is a hybrid position based in Irvine, CA - requiring two days per week.

Base salary is one piece of our total rewards package and is structured within a range so you can progress as you grow in the role. For this position, the anticipated annual base salary range is $26.44 to $36.30. Actual compensation will depend on your skills, experience, qualifications, and the work location tied to our geographic pay structure.
