Description
Position Summary:
Responsible for underwriting loans for successful transaction and sale. Ensures the performance of all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrites 4 – 6 conventional, USDA and FHA loans within company, investor, and industry guidelines per day with a standard turnaround time of 24 - 48 hours
- Maintains a current knowledge of loan programs.
- Analyzes and issues credit decisions. Reviews and makes informed decisions on financial statements, credit reports and applicable rations (i.e., DTI and LTV).
- Analyzes risk appropriately by assessing property information including: purchase contract, escrow instructions, and preliminary title report.
- Evaluates/examines transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensures documents are consistent and compliant. Identifies red flags on documentation.
- Assists with restructuring of loans based on lending guidelines.
- Gathers information from agency materials to make appropriate decisions. Assigns and signs off on appropriate loan conditions.
- Assists Processing Department with problematic files to expedite submissions.
- Effectively explains rationale behind credit decision to internal customers and/or auditors.
- Answers program guideline and borrower qualification questions from loan consultants and processors.
- Communicates effectively with internal staff to maintain high level of customer service.
- Utilizes Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) Programs.
- Underwrites VA loans and acquires SARS certification.
Requirements
- High School Degree or equivalent required and a minimum of four (4) + years of successful professional experience within the mortgage lending industry preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) + years of successful Conventional underwriting experience required.
- Valid and current FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) certification required.
- Proficiency in Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) Programs required.

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay for this role is between $28.85 and $50.72. Your base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including your job-related knowledge/skills, qualifications, experience, and market location.
