Key Responsibilities: 
(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)
  • Directing the 4th and 5th Grade Bands
  • Teaching group lessons to 4th - 8th grade students on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments from beginner to intermediate levels
  • Supporting the Middle and High School Band classes
  • Directing school concerts as well as off-campus performances
  • Preparing students for NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals
  • Supporting and sponsoring activities/events outside of the typical school day, including directing after-school ensembles and possible private lesson teaching
  • Being a collaborative, contributing team member of the Fine Arts Department as well as the Lower School and Upper School divisions
  • Growing professionally in order to meet the changing responsibilities of the position

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred; Music Education degree preferred
  • Experience in teaching elementary music students in a school setting
  • Experience in teaching woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments
  • Experience in using technology in the music classroom
  • Familiarity with curriculum design
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing skills
