JOB SUMMARY

The CMO is responsible for strategic and tactical executive leadership to LMH Health with an emphasis on its Clinical Integration & Excellence and Provider Engagement imperatives. As a member of the senior leadership team (SLT), the CMO will collaborate with medical staff department directors/management and hospital staff to ensure that the highest standards of clinical excellence, high reliability and service are maintained. The CMO and the VP of Clinical Excellence oversee the implementation of efforts designed to improve clinical performance, high reliability, and compliance with Joint Commission, HIPAA, and other accreditation standards. This leader evaluates developments in medical care and makes recommendations for new policy, practice and procedures. A key colleague to the CEO, the role has essential executive responsibility across the organization to all leadership bodies and medical teams on matters impacting patient care, clinical strategy, Physician Enterprise, service line enhancement and other areas (population health, clinical efficiency, High Reliability, stewardship, and value).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participates in defining LMH Health’s purpose, A Partner for Lifelong Health, strategic plan (Destination Health, and our Cultural Beliefs and aligning strategic, operational, programmatic and other plans and policies toward these ends. Is the physician leader in strategic relationships to ensure alignment of goals and objectives between administration and providers.  Collaborates with senior leadership, Board of Trustees, community leaders, and physician leaders to advance our purpose.
  2. Demonstrates strong leadership and character traits including integrity, honesty, forthrightness, trustworthiness, demonstrating each of our Cultural Beliefs.
  3. Exhibits outstanding communication skills with an emphasis on listening and seeking input and feedback. Is able to incorporate ideas on complex issues and articulate a message that reflects clear strategic and tactical directions in a manner that reaches the audience and builds consensus.  Provides a clinical focus and insight to the dialog and decision making of the Senior Leadership Team and with the Board of Trustees.
  4. Participates in LMH Experience Teams in reviewing patient satisfaction and provider engagement data (from staff, colleagues and patients) and collaborates with teams to set goals and actions in response to the surveys.
  5. Working with the VP of Clinical Excellence, provides dyad leadership on all aspect of the High Reliability Organization plan with special emphasis on engaging providers.
  6. As a Matrix/Dyad leader with the VP Clinical Services/CNO and the VP of Clinical Excellence, provides clinical leadership in establishing expectations, developing plans, allocating resources and assigning personnel and processes to measure, assess, and improve the quality of the hospital’s, clinical and support activities. Participates in inter and intra disciplinary and performance improvement activities.  Coordinates the reporting of system-wide improvement activities.
  7. As a matrix/dyad leader with the AVP for Strategy and Service Line Development, provides clinical leadership and provider insight into the development, growth, and resourcing of service lines.
  8. Works collaboratively with VP for Physician Enterprise and the VP HR to assess and develop programs that promote a supportive work environment for providers, developing employment contracts that reflect market-based compensation and benefit plans and efforts that enhance well-being and promote peak performance. Assists in the development of programs for the recruitment, retention, development, continuing education and performance-improvement of all providers.
  9. Actively participates with SLT colleagues in contractual matters for employed providers and hospital-based professional services.
  10. Possesses and/or builds knowledge of payer reimbursement and medical policies, collaborating with other teammates to educate providers regarding payer’s disparities between medical policies and reimbursement policies
  11. Participates in development of clinical care management processes that are mindful of both clinical and financial outcomes for the patient
  12. Provides clinical executive leadership insight to population health and collaborates with executive management to determine which population health payer initiatives provide appropriate financial incentive given the expected process innovation
  13. Collaborates with executive management to facilitate clinical evaluation of equipment and medical supplies
  14. Partners with other executives to educate physicians on reimbursement policies for clinical service lines.

SUPERVISION:

Primarily matrix model working with Senior Leadership

  • VP Clinical Care & CNO for Hospitalists, Anesthesia and ED Physicians and APPs
  • VP Physician Division for Physician Enterprise Board and physician recruiting
  • AVP, Ancillary Services for Radiologists, Pathologists
  • VP Clinical Excellence for quality, high reliability, medical staff and licensure
  • AVP, Strategy and Service Line for service line development

 

ADMINISTRATION AND POLICY:

  • Serves as an Ex-Officio voting member of the LLC Board
  • Works with VP-Physician Enterprise on all matters associated with the Physician Enterprise
  • Works in coordination LLC Enterprise Board and VP Physician Enterprise in recommending appropriate disciplinary proceedings of physicians
  • Works in coordination with consultant, CFO, CEO and others in recommending physician compensation
  • Supports efforts for Physician and APP recruitment.
  • Works in coordination with CEO, CFO VP of Physician Enterprise and others for recommendations for new physician practice acquisition
  • Provides leadership to business plan development
  • Assists CEO with Board of Trustees and Medical Staff strategy considerations

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Required: M.D. or D.O. Demonstrated leadership and/or administrative management experience. Excellent communication skills, including a high level of responsiveness.  Excellent interpersonal skills. 

             

  • Preferred: MBA, MHA, MPH or equivalent degree or in the process of obtaining.
