About You and this Role

 

If you enjoy conducting Legal Research, thereby securing compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations on a global scale, as well as adjusting corporate operations to respond to regulatory and political market developments you are the right fit for this position!

 

This position focuses on Legal Research in the area of Digital Governance, including Data Protection, Information Security, AI, and other existing and emerging regulation focusing on data and digital services. You will be identifying and evaluating applicable legal and regulatory compliance requirements in the many different jurisdictions we operate in world-wide. You will help Liferay identify and assess potential non-compliance risks, advise Liferay on priorities and support relevant teams and Business Units in the implementation of the required policies, procedures and their execution with the ultimate goal of establishing globally consistent world-class compliance processes in the different areas of Digital Governance. You will be responsible for the monitoring and for analyzing changes in laws, regulations and industry standards and stay informed about global compliance laws, rules, regulations and standards. 

 

Over time, considering the workload and your qualifications and interests, you could develop into a subject matter specialist for certain areas of Digital Governance Compliance that require more in-depth and ongoing attention. You’ll get an opportunity to gain meaningful familiarity with Liferay's global business and many aspects of key technology trends.

 

In order to succeed in this role you therefore should not only enjoy legal research in the area of compliance and provide for goal-oriented legal advice, but also possess an entrepreneurial spirit, have passion for working collaboratively with others to quickly become a strategic partner to the business, engineering, finance, IT department and other compliance functions and an integral member of the Legal team. 

 

You’ll help Liferay achieve our goals in the area of Compliance and maintain continued growth as a global leader in open source enterprise solutions. You’ll work as part of a team of senior legal professionals to advance and support Liferay’s growth strategy and excellent Digital Governance around the globe.
 
In order to facilitate collaboration with the Team Lead based in the European Union, the preferred location for this position would be in Budapest, Hungary. 

 

Key Objectives

 

  • Conduct legal research and serve as Legal Counsel (Compliance/Digital Governance) 
  • Identify and evaluate laws, rules, regulations and standards in the area of Digital Governance compliance
  • Identify and assess legal risks material to our business and organization, and provide recommendations on mitigating measures; 
  • Anticipate legal risks, consider business needs, apply legal analysis, perform legal risk assessments and determine and recommend steps and actions; 
  • Support general efforts directed at the development and improvement of our compliance programs
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on Compliance related matters;
  • Promote the importance of a solid ethical culture and awareness of our compliance programs



Required Qualifications

 

  • Advanced understanding of applicable laws in the area of Digital Governance compliance as they apply to Liferay as open source software provider and to international cloud services providers generally 
  • Solid understanding of compliance laws, rules, regulations and standards in the area of Digital Governance. 
  • LLB or LLM or equivalent qualification in at least one major European jurisdiction is preferred; Additional qualifications in additional jurisdictions or extensive international work experience is strongly desired;
  • Generally requires at minimum 5 years of applicable in-house, law firm or legal research experience;
  • Experience supporting the implementation and management of compliance programs; understanding of risk assessment 
  • Proactive approach to recognizing business and compliance needs, anticipating issues, and applying thorough and thoughtful analysis and exceptional sense of judgment in determining recommended steps and actions related to compliance matters. 
  • Professional fluency and ability to communicate in English is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with all levels of our organization and to work effectively in a professional team environment; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; sound judgment and ability to inspire and persuade others in a growing, global business; 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Professional fluency in languages other than English, is a plus.
  • Experience in working with compliance software programs is a plus;
