Role Overview

The IT Business Partner (ITBP) proactively serves as a trusted advisor and is the primary IT point of contact to business line executives and managers within their assigned business area. The ITBP provides support in delivering technology products that meet the needs of the business. The ITBP focuses on strategic initiatives and planning activities for their business area and they strive to understand market challenges, including customer priorities and competitive issues. They serve a lead role in enabling the business to achieve their objectives through the effective use of technology.


The ITBP plays an active role in preparing Business Case and Project Definition documentation to be submitted for approval, collaborating with key stakeholders and the Strategic Projects team.


The ITBP will be accountable for the delivery of all approved strategic projects sponsored by their primary business stakeholder and will collaborate with the project team throughout the project lifecycle, advising business stakeholders, managing their expectations, identifying and mitigating risks and facilitating input from IT colleagues where appropriate.


The ITBP will also oversee new feature development and prioritization of small enhancements to be delivered via the LHH Managed Services team.


For all features being delivered through a strategic project or Managed Services, the ITBP will collaborate with Product Managers & Product Owners to define Feature enhancements with enough detail to enable technical design and sizing and subsequent prioritization before features are decomposed into user stories by a Business Analyst.

Key Accountabilities

Be the primary trusted advisor and partner for the assigned Business team

  • Act as the key liaison between assigned business line, IT, and outside vendors when necessary
  • Collaborate effectively with Product Managers to identify and understand their strategic goals
  • Help prioritize strategic goals and initiatives and create strategic roadmaps to support the delivery of goals & initiatives
  • Coordinate regular meetings to communicate with stakeholders regarding project / service delivery, improvement opportunities, stakeholder feedback and promote IT services and capabilities
  • Accountable for ensuring correct technology processes are followed in the design, implementation, adoption, and evolution of technology-based products
  • Accountable for facilitating the creation of a Technology RoadMap to support the Strategic Product RoadMap


Facilitate the delivery of strategic projects that support strategic goals of the Product team:

  • Ensure that stakeholder goals are considered in IT project and budget planning processes
  • Support the development of Project Charter and Business Case documentation that is required to secure project approval and funding
  • Identify, screen, and evaluate new solution opportunities to address business objectives
  • Collaborate with IT architecture and DevOps teams to ensure solution compatibility with company standards
  • Collaborate with the IT Project Management Office on the demand management process and prioritization of projects across the company
  • Guide business stakeholders through the process of clearly defining the need, creating a business case when necessary, securing required approvals, and engaging with the IT Project Management Office
  • Guide business stakeholders through the process of clearly defining minor feature enhancements and prioritization into the Managed Services development process
  • Collaborate with (and coach, as needed) Product Owners, Business Analysts and Subject Matter Experts on AGILE best practice and continuous improvement approach 
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to ensure Feature requests have sufficient detail that the technical teams can estimate the level of effort required to deliver the Feature
  • Accountable for ensuring that new Feature requests are estimated for size of effort and technical approach
  • Accountable for facilitating Feature prioritization so that Business Analysts and Product Owners can start work on decomposition and story writing of the most important features


Lead and oversee the prioritization of Managed Services Product enhancements

  • Ensure that processes are in place to effectively define, prioritize and size new Product features
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to define new features, ensuring that features are defined to a level that enables them to be evaluated for prioritization, and allows Solution Architects to evaluate and size
  • Engage IT Solution Architects to review proposed Features for architectural compliance and sizing
  • Oversee the process to approve features to be decomposed into user stories by a Business Analyst for development
  • Support Business Analysts with Release prioritization conflicts, liaising and negotiating with Product Owners, and escalating to Product Managers if needed


Deliver consistent, accurate and timely tracking of progress against objectives and initiatives:

  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver continuously updated progress reports so that key stakeholders always have current information
  • Facilitate regular review meetings with business leaders and sponsors
  • Facilitate regular review meetings with ITLT members


Required Experience & Characteristics

  • University degree in a relevant field of study
  • Possess strong analytical skills, including an understanding of business processes and economics
  • A structured and logical approach; able to handle multiple tasks, think and plan ahead and build in contingencies to allow for unknown risks/blockers/delays that may occur
  • Ability to deal with complex scenarios and escalations
  • Desire to deliver consistent customer focus in a demanding environment with occasionally aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to constructively articulate and debate different points of view, ensure all voices are heard, and a consensus is reached
  • Ability to visualize and communicate the total vision of a project, application, or technical solution (the bigger picture) in an effective and inspirational way
  • Ability to work independently and with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. business practice areas, broad spectrum of IT teams, customers, 3rd parties, local & corporate management)
  • Able to build productive, co-operative working relationships with customers, peers and key stakeholders based on respect and good rapport
  • Able to evaluate information quickly, identify key issues, and formulate conclusions based on sound, practical judgment, experience, and common sense

  • Experience gathering and documenting requirements from the business and facilitating requirements sessions with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Experience documenting current and future state, developing process flow diagrams, and acting as a liaison between the business stakeholders and IT
  • Strong business acumen, with superior problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to understand complex information and assess requirements
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation skills with ability to communicate and influence at all levels
