We’re looking for a Product Researcher to join our growing product team. This is a great opportunity for product researchers* who want to impact the lives of tens of thousands of learners on the Lessonly platform.

As a Product Researcher, you will strategically advance how Lessonly understands its users and their relationship to our product. This is a great opportunity for researchers who want to make an impact on a product roadmap and help shape the design practice at Lessonly as our team continues to mature.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead research initiatives, working with product managers and designers to understand the strategic direction and user research goals. We’re a fast-paced team that values quick, strategic research projects. This is a mixed-methods role (qualitative and quantitative) but will lean heavily on qualitative to inform our product discovery process. You’ll own the research process from end to end: working with squads to ask strategic research questions, recruiting users, conducting research, and then lead the analysis and understanding of the findings.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Research Expert (25%)

    • Internal thought leader for generative and evaluative (including both formative and summative) research efforts. Includes scoping and recruiting, to method selection, research findings / presentation, doing research throughout the product lifecycle from strategic discovery to tactical evaluation.

    • Synthesize useful insights from quantitative and qualitative research and present findings to engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.

  • Research Executor (50%)
    • Plan, manage, and execute all aspects of generative and evaluative user research, which includes delivery of results with the product squads.

    • Design and conduct research studies to derive actionable insights about our user’s needs, attitudes, behaviors, pain points, and preferences

    • Coordinate recruiting with internal stakeholders (product management, customer experience), and scheduling research participants

  • Research Operations (25%)

    • Create templates and deliverables to communicate your research plans and findings: questionnaires, user journeys, task flows, personas, data visualizations, behavior spectra, test protocols, interview scripts, etc

    • Look for ways to improve our research operations, including:
      • Our recruitment pipeline to be more repeatable and predictable for generative and evaluative research.
      • Better tools, methods, and processes

About You
An ideal candidate is a great listener and observer who can balance several just-in-time research projects with long term research efforts. You’ll partner with product managers, designers, and customer experience to shape our approach to understand our customers. 

Critical Requirements:
  • At least 2+ years of experience conducting user research / product research for digital products that deliver on business goals.

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment where speed, research rigor, and quality must be balanced to meet project needs of a rapidly changing start-up environment

    • You aspire to excellence, but you understand that real artists ship. You know what level of detail is right for the situation.

    • Familiar with scrappy research techniques, iterative design thinking methodologies and have used it on research projects

  • You’re comfortable running multiple projects at once and are a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset who loves to improve processes and outcomes.

  • Experience with generative and evaluative research initiatives, with an appreciation for applying lean methodologies.

    • You can design and run research programs using a broad variety of tools, such as ethnography, interviewing, surveys, benchmark tests, usability tests, etc

    • You can correctly analyze qualitative data easily and lead teams through the findings, and analyze basic quantitative survey data as well.

    • Experience conducting semi-structured interviews, contextual field visits, remote usability studies

    • Excellent knowledge of research principles, methods, experiment design, facilitation, and familiarity with combining qualitative and quantitative data

  • You’re a collaborative team member and passionate about improving our product.
  • You have confident opinions, weakly held. 
    • You have a perspective on what good products are and what good product research is, but you’re open to meeting team members in the middle.

  • You can identify gaps and biases in our understanding of users and drive the team to improve our knowledge.


  • Experience researching in a start-up environment
    • Using guerilla research methods or quick data analysis methods


  • Business Acumen
    • As demonstrated by being able to translate the non-technical business needs into a clear technical action plan and vice versa, seamlessly.


  • Prior Design Experience
    • As demonstrated by having built user interfaces that have been implemented.
