ABOUT THE ROLE

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic Legal Counsel with keen business acumen to join our dynamic in-house legal team. Reporting to a Senior Legal Counsel, you will be part of an international team of lawyers, working on projects related to our rapidly expanding business including online gaming brands and related businesses that LeoVegas Group operates in multiple jurisdictions as part of MGM Resorts International.

This role will sit specifically within the ‘Commercial & IP’ unit of the legal team. The Commercial & IP team is a growing team of 8 legal professionals who are located in the UK & Malta. We do also, however, have legal team members located in our Stockholm & Gibraltar offices who you would also work alongside at a group level.

As Legal Counsel within the team, you will have the opportunity to work on marketing & sponsorship deals including with sports teams, media agencies, creative agencies, celebrities & ambassadors for all markets that the group operates in. The Commercial & IP team are also responsible for consumer facing terms and conditions, group insurance matters, commercial litigation intellectual property, employment law issues and more! This is a new role within the team due to the growth of the business.

You will therefore work closely with stakeholders across the entire commercial arm of the business and have the opportunity to work on a number of business expansion projects, as we continue to grow our existing brands alongside a roll out of the ‘BetMGM’ brand in new markets throughout 2024 and beyond.

 

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

        Draft, review and offer guidance on a variety of contracts including marketing and sponsorship agreements (previous examples include football and celebrity sponsorships), non-disclosure, affiliate and consultancy agreements, and any other legal documentation as required;

        Negotiate legal terms directly with suppliers;

        Collaborate with professionals across various departments, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

        Provide general legal advice and support on a range of issues;

        Extend support to the HR team on human resource related matters;

        Develop internal policies and procedures;

        Raise the business awareness around key commercial legal risks and mitigations;

        Support innovation and use of technology to simplify and improve the delivery of legal services;

        Monitor, research and advise with relevant  legal developments, industry regulations, and best practices in various jurisdictions to ensure the company’s legal strategies remain current and effective;

        Assist in the resolution of disputes, including contract disputes and potential litigation, collaborating  with external legal counsel if required;

        Ensure appropriate processes and procedures are in place in respect of assigned areas of responsibility;

        Deal with any post-contractual legal issues that may arise; and

        Ensure timely progression of ongoing commercial contracts and legal requests.

OUR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

        Qualified solicitor NQ-5 years PQE with experience either in-house or within a private practice law firm.

        Demonstrable experience in drafting, negotiating and reviewing various types of agreements.

        A proactive, self-starter able to work independently but also thrive on working as part of a wider team, in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.

        Excellent attention to detail with strong communication skills and sound judgement.

        Proactive approach in identifying legal risks and proposing practical preventive strategies.

        Team player with the ability to work and build strong relationships with colleagues in a multicultural and multinational environment.

        Ability to think "outside the box" to come up with practical commercial solutions to problems.

        Self-driven and able to take ownership of all tasks and projects and drive them through to completion, while managing competing priorities.

        Uphold a high standard of work ethic, always ensuring to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner.

        Experience in the gaming, marketing or technology sectors would be an asset but not required. Willingness to learn and curiosity about new areas are sufficient!
