We are looking for a Vice President, Experience Design to join the Product organization. This leader will report to the Chief Product Officer and will have a dotted line to the Chief Marketing Office. The role manages a large team of Designers, Writers, and Ops and works daily with our Product, Marketing, and other leaders to align the team against product and company goals. In addition this role has oversight into the creative direction for the company and will work closely with the marketing organization to apply the brand strategy and insights to our digital experience (web, emails, social media, content and more) all the way into how we creatively communicate in our care and sales team. We are looking for a Experience Design  leader who can influence and collaborate across all consumer touch points and inspire our consumers and our employees. As a Vice President, you will be on the product and the marketing leadership teams, and will be a senior leader in the company, responsible for helping to lead teams, foster talent, develop a high performing culture, and role model the values and principles of the organization.


You will

  • Lead a large organization of exceptional design professionals, ranging from Product Designers, Visual Designers, Writers, and Design Operations managers
  • Set a design vision that aligns Product Design, Creative, and Writing with overall company objectives.
  • Influence the product strategy, deliver high-quality design work, and understand how to solve a range of product challenges across all customer touch points (web, mobile web, email, social and more)
  • Work together with cross-functional leadership across the company to tie business and company goals back into the design organization, serving as one of LegalZoom’s most senior leaders
  • Work with key stakeholders, Product Managers, Product Marketers and Engineering teams to drive design solutions moving forward
  • Provide direction to the Experience Design team from conceptual work all the way through execution
  • Define and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standard and help drive the LegalZoom’s design system forward at a strategic level
  • Elevate the voice of the Experience Design team company-wide
  • Build systems and processes that allow Design to navigate company, team, and individual professional growth while maintaining strong culture
  • Develop deep partnerships across the executive team and cross-functional peers to set strategy, priorities, and resourcing
  • Set ambitious but achievable goals, expect high standards
  • Coach, mentor, and empower senior design leaders and help them grow their skills and leadership experience
  • Improve and expand the team by attracting, developing and retaining high performance designers who excel within a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Manage the XD budget, including tools, vendors, non-headcount budget allocation, and tradeoff decisions
  • Foster an open and collaborative culture based on trust in the XD department, where everyone feels empowered to do their best work
  • Hold regular skip-level 1:1s with all members of the XD team


Skills and Experience

  • Lead with empathy
  • 12-15+ years-experience in design leadership managing a design team at scale for software product
  • Experience managing design leaders, including managers of managers
  • Structured, thorough, and methodical in their approach to leading large organizations
  • Care deeply about the people in their team, helping them to achieve their personal and professional goals, and enabling them to do their best work
  • Focus on delivering results not activity
  • Think holistically – about the customers using our products, a cohesive design system, and end-to-end experiences
  • A team player with no ego
  • Balance data with gut, embraces test and learn approach to make informed business decisions

  • Strong motivation, presentation and communications skills including experience working closely with senior leadership (c-suite)
  • Experience with consumer facing, technology-driven DIY products and services a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA a plus
