Overview
LegalZoom’s Brand & Creative team is looking for a craft-obsessed Principal Visual Designer to shape how our brand comes to life across experiences. As a senior individual contributor, you'll define and elevate the visual expression of the LegalZoom brand. You'll set the standard for visual craft by creating thoughtful, distinctive, customer-centered work and influencing creative direction across the organization, ensuring every touchpoint reflects a cohesive, high-quality design language.
You'll partner across Brand, Marketing, Product, Content, and Engineering to translate business strategy into compelling visual experiences that strengthen our brand and deepen customer trust. Whether designing high-impact web experiences, evolving our visual systems, or setting creative direction for major initiatives, you'll raise the quality of everything we create.
This is a highly hands-on role for someone who thrives in the work while influencing through craft, collaboration, and vision rather than people management.
You Will
Lead the visual direction and execution of high-impact design initiatives across LegalZoom's marketing ecosystem, including brand identity systems, creative execution across integrated marketing campaigns, advertising, web, presentations, editorial design, and a broad range of marketing and graphic design assets.
Design best-in-class marketing web experiences that balance storytelling, usability, accessibility, and business performance.
Evolve and expand LegalZoom's visual language, ensuring consistency while pushing the brand forward in meaningful ways.
Establish scalable visual systems, templates, and patterns that improve quality and efficiency across teams.
Partner closely with Brand, Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, Product Design, Content Design, Engineering, and external agencies to bring integrated experiences to life.
Translate business goals, customer insights, and brand strategy into thoughtful visual solutions that resonate with our audiences.
Champion exceptional craft through design critiques, mentorship, and thoughtful feedback, helping raise the quality of design across the organization.
Implement emerging technologies, AI-powered creative workflows, and evolving digital design trends to continually improve how we work and what we create.
Present work confidently to cross-functional leaders, clearly communicating design rationale and influencing decisions through strong visual storytelling.
Take ownership of complex, ambiguous design challenges from concept through launch while maintaining an exceptional level of craft and attention to detail.
You Have
8-10+ years of experience creating exceptional visual design work for digital products, consumer brands, or technology companies.
An outstanding portfolio demonstrating excellence across marketing websites, brand design, visual systems, digital campaigns, and customer experiences.
Exceptional typography, composition, layout, color, and visual storytelling skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Deep expertise designing responsive web experiences and a strong understanding of modern web capabilities, accessibility, and performance considerations.
Fluency in Figma and modern collaborative design workflows.
Experience building and maintaining scalable design systems and visual frameworks.
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across disciplines and organizational levels.
A collaborative mindset and a proven ability to lead through influence rather than formal authority.
Curiosity, strong creative instincts, and a desire to continually push the quality of both the work and the team's creative standards.
The salary range for this role is $171,000-$190,000. Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
