We are seeking an Analytics Engineer to design reliable datasets using SQL, DBT, and data modeling, ensuring accuracy and usability for analytics and applications.
Position Title: Senior Analytics Engineer
Location: Remote - Colombia
What you will be doing:
We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to design, develop, and maintain high-quality datasets that support applications, data scientists, and power users. This role requires expertise in SQL, data modeling, and DBT, focusing on data transformation and quality assurance. You will collaborate with teams to ensure the usability and accuracy of datasets, contributing to a robust data ecosystem. This position is not centered around data visualization, machine learning, or data ingestion but rather on creating reliable and accessible datasets. Your responsibilities include:
- Develop and optimize datasets using dimensional modeling (Kimball, Star Schema).
- Create, chain, document, and test SQL models in DBT.
- Perform calculations and derive new fields to enhance data usability.
- Write and optimize advanced SQL queries, including window functions and performance tuning.
- Investigate and resolve data quality issues through record analysis and reporting.
- Work closely with downstream teams to address data requirements and enable advanced transformations.
- Use Git for code management and version control.
- Add unit tests to data models to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Participate in peer code reviews to maintain coding standards.
- Work with data in formats such as CSV, JSON, and Parquet.
Requirements & Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- SQL Proficiency: Advanced SQL expertise, including window calculations, performance optimization, and familiarity with Snowflake functions.
- DBT Proficiency: Hands-on experience with DBT, including advanced workflows and testing.
- Data Modeling: Strong understanding of Kimball and Star Schema design methodologies.
- Version Control: Experience using Git for collaboration and code versioning.
- Data Formats: Proficiency with CSV, JSON, and Parquet file formats.
- Error Investigation: Ability to identify and resolve data quality issues.
- Code Quality: Experience in unit testing and participating in peer code reviews.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Familiarity with Snowflake tools and features.
- Basic Python knowledge for enhancing DBT workflows or advanced transformations.
- Experience with knowledge graphs or data frame libraries (e.g., Pandas, Polars, Spark).
- Understanding of cloud storage solutions such as S3 or Azure Blob Storage.
