Summary A Field Engineer assists with the daily operations of a project site. The position is stationed at the project site and performs duties through field inspections to ensure that work on the project meets plan and specification requirements. This position is intended to transition the incumbent from a craft operational position to a professional level position.

Duties

  • Champions "The Layton Way" by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
  • Ensures that "Constructing with Integrity" is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
  • Assures compliance by becoming intimately familiar with the assigned project plans and specifications. Reviews shop drawings, submittals, and processes RFI's
  • Reviews plans from the standpoint of value analysis and constructability, ensuring appropriate materials are utilized. Recommends labor saving and other cost saving practices. Checks all submittals for compliance with specifications.
  • Verifies daily production to monitor production goals.
  • Recommends cost- and production- saving ideas to the field team.
  • Observes and analyzes work methods, techniques, and procedures and advises the superintendent on ways to improve production efficiency.
  • Monitors quality assurance and testing procedures.
  • Verifies compliance with document requirements.
  • Helps with processing daily checklists in BIM 360 Field.
  • Coordinates field procedures to comply with industry standards.
  • Assists in monitoring job safety and assists in coordinating job site clean-up.
  • Maintains RFI, ASI, and submittal logs.
  • Assists with layout and verifies it for accuracy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year previous field experience. 2-3 years field experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic work methods and techniques.
  • Good written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar software.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • The ability to prioritize and organize tasks and follow through with completion.
  • The ability to understand and apply OSHA and Layton Construction safety requirements.
  • Knows how to manage events to achieve goals. Is a self-starter and works well without close supervision. Has a record of achieving aggressive goals.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling programs preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Normally assigned to the project worksite.
  • Must be able to work in a construction site environment and tolerate exposure to seasonal weather, such as heat, dust, mud, snow, ice, rain, and wind.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding, step over and around objects, recognize and avoid safety hazards, and tolerate heights, exposed ledges, tight spaces, etc.
  • Required to sit, talk, hear, see, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Work is physically demanding. Must lift or move up to 75 pounds.
  • No special vision requirements.
  • Little or no travel by land, air.
  • Assigned shift will depend on the assigned project, including weekend or night shifts. Overtime assigned as required.
