Summary
The payroll clerk is responsible for general payroll assistance which may cross into departments such as Accounts Payable or G/L accounting.

Duties
- Champions "The Layton Way" by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
- Ensures that "Constructing with Integrity" is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
- Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
- Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, job title, and department transfers.
- Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
- Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
- Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
- Reconciliation of payroll accounts
- Completes employment verifications.
- Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years education in office administration, bookkeeping, or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
- Types at least 40 wpm.
- Has some 10-key experience.
- Has basic working knowledge of Word and Excel.
- Has high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational skills including effective time management, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks while determining priorities
- Demonstrates strong ability to work well on a team and within a fast-paced environment and meets deadlines under pressure.
- Interpersonal Relations: Maintains effective relationships with others. Uses tact. Is sensitive to feelings and needs of others.
- Has the ability to operate office equipment, such as a computer, printer, copier, phone, 10-key, and fax.
- Competent written and verbal communication/language skills to interact effectively with others
- Integrity: Maintains the normal standards of ethics, conduct and organizational policies in job-related activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
