Primary Role:   The HR Manager is responsible for all human resources functions in Canada. This critical role is the senior advisor to the business leadership team on all talent related programs and initiatives. The HR Manager will work with the HR team to assure all the day-to-day HR tasks and processes are executed efficiently and effectively. They partner with the global HR team, the Canada HR team and Plant Managers to drive a positive culture and enhance engagement across all locations. The HR Manager also leads efforts related to employee relations, engagement, recruitment and retention initiatives in support of Latham’s core values and strategy. This role will participate in broader business and HR projects, as well as process improvement initiatives in Canada or across the company. 
Duties and Responsibilities:   
Human Resources Functions:     
 
  • Act as a trusted business partner to the plant managers and their teams; as an integral member of the plant leadership team, lead the development and execution of key initiatives to assist in driving business results.
  • Manages the HR professionals in Canada to ensure all HR activities are completed successfully and efficiently;  hire, coach, develop and mentor HR employees.
  • Ensures all legal regulatory requirements are met and keeps current on changing legislation.
  • Leads development of recruiting plans for all roles working in partnership with hiring managers and the HR team. This includes but it is not limited to internal job postings, external advertising, job fairs and open houses.
  • Recommends policy and procedure changes to include process improvements, innovations, and improved service delivery methods globally.
  • Conducts investigations, documenting appropriately, and recommending course of action to include collaborating with outside vendors and stakeholders on legal matters/hearing attendance/risk mitigation to protect Latham’s interests.  
  • Case management of STD/LTD employees in a timely manner with updates to management involved. 
  • Manages disciplinary issues, terminations, and layoffs working with the HR team.
  • Coach and train supervisors and managers on policies and procedures and various employment laws. 
  • Support learning initiatives by proactively identify learning needs across the business and helping to build learning plans based on those needs; measure the effectiveness of the training programs and seek continuous improvement in plans. 
  • Leads in partnership with Corporate Payroll & Benefits on:  
    • Informing employees on insurance enrollment deadlines  
    • Reviewing benefit offering annually and recommending changes as needed 
    • Overseeing weekly payroll approvals   
    • Managing all payroll-related issues including pay shortages, overpayments, garnishments, support orders, requests for information, etc.  
    • Processing all pay increases 
  • Oversees the administration of all compensation activities.
  • Led the performance review process in Canada and assist managers with the overall process.
  • Partner with Environmental Health and Safety in the plants to develop and maintain the appropriate safety rules and regulations.
    • Conduct visual audits and recommend changes
    • Participate in safety committee meetings
    • Ensure all injuries are reported accurately and timely 
             
Other duties and special projects as assigned.  
 
 
Qualifications:
  
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field with a minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience 
  • HR Certification and Bilingual (English/French) a plus  
  • Public company experience a plus  
  • Previous manufacturing highly preferred  
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, regulations, and concepts  
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and confidential situations while maintaining high ethical standards  
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with diplomacy, accuracy, and a service-orientation 
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach to work; able to demonstrate creative problem-solving skills and an inquisitive approach to solving complex or unfamiliar problems  
  • Strong work ethic; Approachable and responsive – able to develop strong working relationships with employees and leaders 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required, including being able to hold meetings and perform training in small and large groups - excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills 
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications, such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Survey Monkey, Zoom, Employee Survey software, Jobvite or similar applicant tracking system, HRIS and ADP Workforce Now  
  • Must be available to work 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday at the designated location, with flexibility for nights/weekends as required.  

 Annual salary starting at $118,000
