Safety Generalist

What is the job?

This role is responsible for issues involving Plant Safety/Health and OSHA compliance. Training, development/ maintenance of Safety & Health Policy and Procedures, Plant Security, and additional projects as required/needed. 


What you’ll do:

  • Establish and promote a work environment that is safe and healthy
  • Identify and implement policies and procedures to control occupational safety and health hazards associated with operations
  • Foster a safety culture that goes beyond that which is mandated
  • Maintain company compliance and state safety regulations and maintain appropriate reporting and accountability systems
  • Ability to create training presentations, safety videos, newsletters, and safety training
  • Facilitate presentations in a way that it relates to the audience
  • Maintain existing Safety Data Sheets and assure compliance with all Hazardous Materials handling regulations
  • Participate with department management in safety audits, investigations, and inspections
  • Assist management with the establishment and implementation of specific safety objectives for each department on campus
  • Participate in industry and professional interest groups to stay current on trends, issues, and technological innovation
  • Primary contact or assist as required in campus emergency management procedures
  • Provide recommendations, assist in the implementation and maintaining plant-wide security plan


Minimum Requirments:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, Industrial Hygiene, or related field with 2-4 years of relevant experience or equivalent
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in-person
  • Excellent attendance and work record
  • Excellent customer service, and data entry skills
  • Possess professional maturity
  • Must be flexible to work in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to grasp the challenges and opportunities facing our changing manufacturing operations
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders about the company’s safety and environmental health policies and accomplishments


Nice to haves: 

  • Experience in a health and safety role ideally for a major corporation industry such as furniture production or other manufacturing and or management
  • Certification in a specialized EHS field (i.e. Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Environmental Engineering, etc.)
  • Have at least 3 to 6 years of experience in a health and safety / environmental role
