Position Summary: 
 
As a Private Equity Tax Compliance Manager at KSM, you will act as a key liaison between partners, private equity clients, and staff. You will manage complex tax compliance engagements for private equity firms and their portfolio companies, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and optimizing tax positions. Responsibilities include overseeing multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating workflow, scheduling, and staffing engagements, developing technical expertise in private equity tax compliance, and mentoring staff. You will play an integral role in the firm’s growth by fostering and maintaining strong client relationships. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Private Equity Expertise: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of private equity structures, including partnerships, corporations, and various investment vehicles, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Client Relationship Management: Maintain ongoing contact with private equity clients, ensuring a deep understanding of their businesses and tax compliance needs, providing tailored advice and solutions.
  • Engagement Management: Collaborate with Resource Coordinators to staff private equity tax engagements using firm policies and procedures, ensuring timely, efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Review and Supervision: Oversee Associates and Senior Associates in the preparation of tax returns for private equity firms and related entities, including  partnership tax returns with complex allocations. Provide technical guidance and workpaper review, identifying potential issues and offering solutions.
  • Staff Development: Supervise and mentor staff, providing on-the-job training in private equity tax compliance and conducting performance evaluations to foster professional growth.
  • Problem-Solving: Anticipate potential problem areas in engagements, developing procedures to address these issues proactively. Keep supervisors and partners informed of significant developments and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Client Communication: Regularly communicate engagement progress, issues, and resolutions to clients through written and verbal correspondence.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay informed of economic, political, and tax legislative trends affecting private equity and their portfolio companies. Proactively advise clients on how these trends may impact their tax obligations and opportunities. 
Requirements/Qualifications: 
  • A minimum of five years of experience in accounting and tax, with at least three years specifically focused on private equity tax compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage tax compliance engagements for private equity funds, partnerships, and related entities.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting.
  • A current and valid certified public accountant (CPA) license is required.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing professional education annually, focusing on private equity tax compliance and related topics to maintain and enhance technical and business skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of tax preparation software
