Job Description Summary

Responsible for transforming innovative ideas/concepts into creative and functional new products that satisfy unmet customer needs.  Additionally, provides product engineering support for all aspects of the Sliding Systems and Storage and Organization product portfolios to ensure functionality, schedule, quality, and cost.  This position reports to the Senior Manager New Product Engineering.  

The duties and responsibilities of the Product Engineer will consist of, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Defines new product concepts
  • Assists in development of new product protocol
  • Assists with the development of the product design and functionality – including but not limited to: Solid Model Design work, specification of materials, FEA analysis, and testing programs
  • Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified product
  • Implements the product design within the schedule and budget parameters
  • Analyzes the risks of a new design or process and communicates results
  • Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design
  • Develops and maintains procedures and processes that support business requirements
  • Interfaces with others in the organization and customers to jointly determine customer needs and solutions
  • Generates effective written and oral communication to support, execute, and document project activities
  • Maintains records for patent and IP protection
  • Initiate and review all cost estimates, drawings, and ECN/ECO’s associated with assigned projects

  • Work Experience: 2 or more years of demonstrated work experience in this area
  • Education: BS in Engineering or related field; and demonstrates a very high level of ability and effectiveness in the related subject area
  • Creative Emphasis:  Ability to design and develop new concepts from idea to working prototypes. Ability to think outside the box finding solutions to design problems in unique and patentable ways. Demonstrates an ability and desire to provide fresh ideas to other designers to collaboratively help solve complex problems. Familiarity with product design techniques for parts that are plastic injection molded, metal formed, die cast, extrusion, and vacuum formed, is preferred
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
  • Computer Skills: Ability to apply mainstream Microsoft programs to efficiently support project requirements. Significant working and designing experience in 3D Solid Model environment(s)

Preferred Requirements:
  • Certifications: Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam; Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus
  • Computer Skills: intermediate to advanced Excel skills
