Job Description Summary


The Shipping Lead is responsible for ensuring the Shipping schedule is completed in a timely manner within quality parameters by directing the Shipping team (UPS, Large Carrier & LTL).  This position provides operational training to the shipping team and feedback to the Logistics Manager. The Shipping Lead ensures safety and quality standards are maintained at all times and performs all job functions as needed with in the Shipping Area. The Shipping Lead reports to the Logistics Manager.


The duties and responsibilities of a Shipping Lead will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Direct shipping teams (UPS, Large Carrier & LTL) and schedule work flow to fulfill requirements, ensuring that shipping is completed in a timely manner and within quality parameters.
  • Work with Supervisor to manage and prioritize shipping assignments to ensure shipping schedules are met.
  • Coordinate employee training to ensure that shipping procedures are followed and meet all quality and safety requirements.
  • Provide team with personal protective equipment and ensure employees adhere to proper usages of equipment and follow safety regulations
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials or labor to Shipping Supervisor.
  • Work closely with support staff such as Materials/Warehouse, Production Lead, Manufacturing Engineer, Production Supervisor, etc. to resolve issues and answer questions.
  • Observe, maintain, coordinate and complete standard work
  • Ensure production boards are filled out correctly and update daily shipping metrics using Excel. Accountable for paperwork accuracy, transactional timing and labels.
  • Facilitate regular team communication regarding work assignments, safety, procedures, etc.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts with Shipping Supervisor.
  • Participate as an active member of the shipping team. Shipping products using equipment, hand tools, palletizing when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and clean department, adhering to all safety regulations and participate in the Safety Committee.
  • Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by quality standards.

  • Work Experience: 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience including leading teams and projects
  • Education: High School diploma or GED
  • Computer Skills: Computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Organization Skills: Highly analytical with strong troubleshooting skills, capable of diagnosing and correcting complex faults and downtime, Ability to efficiently work in a high paced environment
  • Cross-functional skills: Ability to work with other team members on the production floor, Able to run multiple jobs in more than one department
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and effectively, Ability to problem-solve
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team and with individuals at all levels

Preferred Requirements:

  • Work Experience: 7 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience including leading teams and projects
  • Computer Skills: Previous production supervision and ERP systems
