Hiring Range: $20.07 - $24.58 per hour

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a reliable and compassionate Behavioral Health Technician to support clients at Pendleton Place. In this role, you’ll help maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming environment by supporting daily living needs, monitoring client well-being, and assisting with treatment goals alongside housing and clinical staff. You will also serve as a key point of contact for residents, visitors, and partner agencies while contributing to a calm and therapeutic setting. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure positive customer relations by courteously and helpfully interacting with all individuals entering the building.
  • Monitor lobby activities and serve as a liaison between staff and clients, responding appropriately to client agitation or inappropriate behavior.
  • Buzz clients and visitors in and out of the building and maintain the banned list.
  • Work with the team to reinforce consumer behaviors as specified in treatment plans.
  • Handle incoming phone calls and route them professionally, ensuring timely distribution of messages.
  • Provide administrative support to the Pendleton Place Manager, managing calendars and email, and facilitating meeting preparation.
  • Deescalate situations and discern when additional support is needed.
  • Maintain supplies for the work area and ensure the cleanliness of common areas.
  • Assist clients in meeting their daily basic needs for health and safety, including monitoring, maintaining cleanliness, and inventory management.
  • Complete all required electronic and paper charting, documentation, and data entry as per KMHS guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical activities as directed by a supervisor, including observation and assessment of client mental status.
  • Complete all paperwork related to direct client care.
  • Attend mandatory training and keep documentation current.


Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)

Valid Washington Food Handler card.

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.

Capacity to work well with children and families.

 

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in MPAC/CPI training and other agency-mandated training
  • Maintain basic knowledge of medical records, IS, and agency procedures and forms to answer staff questions and facilitate problem-solving.

SKILLS:

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organizational skills are required to prioritize a variety of work assignments. 
  • Computer skills - Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office environments.

ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Work with the public on the phone and in person.
  • Work with people and maintain composure in emergencies. 
  • Work independently and as a team member. 
  • The ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

 

Work Environment: Office, residential apartments.

 

Mental/Physical Requirements:  While performing the job duties, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
