Peer Support Specialist – Crisis Triage Center

Hiring Range: $20.07-$24.58 per hour

The Crisis Triage Center Peer Support Specialist has personal experience as a recipient of mental health services for severe and persistent mental illness. They are dedicated to using their practical knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit our team, clients, their families, and other community partners as needed.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draw on shared experiences as a peer to validate clients' experiences and provide guidance and encouragement for their recovery.
  • Promote hope and empowerment, helping clients attain recovery goals and maintain the highest possible level of independence, even during periods of instability.
  • Share experiences related to involuntary treatment and provide supportive, hope-inspired recovery-oriented communication.
  • Provide information and referrals for reliable transportation to access medical appointments.
  • Offer coaching and encouragement to help clients socialize and plan leisure time activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with healthcare professionals, individuals served, families, and others regarding discharge planning and referrals.
  • Coordinate with social services personnel to provide necessary services as indicated by the treatment team.
  • Support in arranging appropriate less restrictive alternative placements.
  • Assist clients and staff in understanding and combating stigma and discrimination.
  • Act as a liaison between the team and self-help and consumer advocacy groups that promote recovery.
  • Collaborate with staff and clients on awareness of client rights, including grievance and complaint procedures.
  • Provide practical help and support for clients to access healthcare services and other necessary resources.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)

This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and have reliable, insured transportation.

Valid WA State Food Worker Card (Obtainable after hire)

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration. Completion of the Washington State Mental Health Division’s Peer Counselor Training and the subsequent certification as a Peer Counselor within six months of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Capacity to work well with children and families.
