Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a Nurse Manager to lead and support our dedicated nursing teams across multiple programs. This position plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality, compassionate, and compliant nursing care while fostering an environment of collaboration, safety, and professional growth. The Nurse Manager oversees both administrative and clinical operations, including staffing, training, policy implementation, quality assurance, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Primary Responsibilities:
• Oversee administrative and clinical operations for all nursing services, ensuring smooth workflow, quality care, and compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
• Promote a positive, collaborative, and safe work environment by fostering open communication and teamwork.
• Partner with nurse supervisors to manage hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluation for nursing staff.
• Manage and approve scheduling, timecards, and expenses as needed in coordination with nurse supervisors.
• Address and resolve incidents, medication errors, and client complaints in collaboration with leadership, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up.
• Support budget development and monitor financial performance alongside the Director of Medical Systems.
• Provide reporting and analysis of nursing metrics, recommending solutions or improvement strategies as needed.
• Ensure high-quality charting, documentation, and adherence to EMR standards and procedures.
• Develop, update, and implement nursing policies and procedures to maintain compliance with WACs, RCWs, and professional standards.
• Oversee medication management practices, including procurement, storage, dispensing, and disposal, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Supervise nurse supervisors and support nursing leadership through mentorship, hands-on guidance, and oversight of clinical and operational functions.
• Facilitate and support staff training and development initiatives, ensuring ongoing education and competency in clinical best practices.
• Monitor activity within 24/7 inpatient and residential units to ensure continuity of care and coordination between teams.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with pharmacies and ensure the appropriate supply of medications for client care.
• Provide operational leadership during crisis situations and ensure debriefings are completed following critical incidents.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and quality reviews, ensuring timely corrective actions and compliance follow-up.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and ensure all disclosures are properly documented.
• Complete required training and refreshers to maintain nursing and supervisory standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Associate’s degree in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years nursing experience, with at least two years in a behavioral health environment. Prior supervisory experience required.
LICENSURE: Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Washington State. Active and unencumbered multistate practical nurse license accepted with additional training requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience as a nurse manager or charge nurse.
Performance Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Maintain a working knowledge and demonstrate skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in Pro-ACT and other agency-mandated trainings
- Maintain knowledge of proposed and current WISHA/OSHA regulations; coordinate and provide training for staff as required.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable WA State laws and regulations impacting nursing staff.
SKILLS:
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
- Communicates clearly and concisely.
ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and delegate appropriately.
- Demonstrate ability to interact with supervisor and peers and subordinates using numerous forms of communication effectively (including Microsoft programs, email, Zoom, texting, scheduling and other software application).
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Use of blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, glucometers, pulse oximeter units, scales, pill counting trays and pill cutters.
Work Environment: Office, inpatient and residential treatment facilities. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position.
