Inpatient Shift Supervisor – Youth Inpatient Unit (YIU)
Hiring Range: $24.94. - $30.55 per hour

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a dedicated Inpatient Shift Supervisor to join our team. As part of our Operations Supervisor I position family, you will play a crucial role in supervising and supporting Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to ensure the smooth operation of our inpatient units. Your responsibilities will include hiring and supervising BHTs, conducting ongoing assessments of milieu acuity and client risk, organizing staffing per shift, overseeing client admissions, facilitating therapeutic programming, and conducting regular chart audits.

Primary Responsibilities:

Hiring and Supervision

  • Supervise BHTs in their work including but not limited to training, coaching, evaluating and disciplining with regard to:
  • Provide regular individual supervisions with BHTs.
  • Document and keep confidential records of supervisions and other significant interactions (i.e., issuing disciplinary actions, presenting performance appraisals).
  • Provide ongoing individual training and coaching as needed with regard to specific staff performance, areas of improvement and training goals. Take the lead in ensuring newly hired BHTs are oriented to the team.
  • In collaboration with unit leadership, participate in interviews for Behavioral Health Techs.
  • Complete assigned BHT performance appraisals within agency standards and timelines
  • Promote the enhancement of positive staff morale by facilitating a timely response to concerns, ensuring respectful and professional internal communications, facilitate team building, and providing opportunities for staff recognition.

Unit and Milieu Staffing

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of milieu acuity and client risk, collaborating promptly with staff as needed to ensure effective de-escalation and use of least restrictive alternatives up to seclusion and restraint.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to organize physical interventions with clients as needed, including assembling staff, directing actions, and ensuring the safety of staff and clients. Participate in physical interventions as needed. Facilitate post-incident debriefings.
  • Ensure adequate staffing per shift according to the appropriate protocol, including additional staff based on client individual needs. Follow the established protocol for determining additional staffing.
  • Oversee client admissions from initial intake to client arrival, collaborating with staff and outside agencies as needed to ensure admission criteria are met, all required documentation is completed, all appropriate policies and procedures are followed and all precautions are taken for the health and safety of clients and staff.
  • Review treatment team notes, communicate, and follow up on special assignments and treatment plan information as indicated by the treatment team. Update all relevant communications.


Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years relevant work experience (ie: social service, mental health or customer service) OR

 

  • Associates degree and 4 years relevant work experience (ie: social service, mental health or customer service) OR

 

  • High school diploma and 6 years relevant work experience (ie: social service, mental health or customer service)

 

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field.

EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience as a Team Leader or Supervisor

Relevant experience working in residential or inpatient treatment setting

 

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in MPAC/CPI trainings and other agency-mandated trainings
  2. Maintain knowledge of unit policies and procedures and work collaboratively with the Inpatient Director and Manager to address updates and revisions as necessary.

SKILLS:

  1. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  2. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  3. Proficiency in MS Word preferred.

 

ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

 

Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.

 

Mental/Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position.
