Position Summary

We are looking for a teammate who loves working in a school environment and is looking to be a part of a dynamic team! The Food Service and Janitor role ensures students receive nutritional meals and performs routine custodial duties throughout the school campus. This is a part-time role reporting to the Director of School Operations. This role is located at KIPP University Park Middle School (KUPMS), located at 820 N American St in Stockton, CA. Work hours will be approximately 11:00 am-2:00 pm daily, with the exception of an earlier & shorter schedule on Wednesdays. The position will begin on August 2, 2022.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Experience working in a school setting is preferred 


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Food Handler certification or ability to obtain certification

Knowledge/skills required:

  • Ability to learn,  comprehend, and implement health and safety guidelines around food handling and distribution.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize competing responsibilities, and respond to emergencies calmly and efficiently
  • Successful experience working as an effective member of a team
  • Respect for children and adults from various cultures and backgrounds, flexibility, patience
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that is subject to interruptions
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the accountability, serving, and documentation of meals and snacks served and required for the KUPMS school program. 
  • Prepare and serve meals received from other vendors.
  • Create and follow menus.  
  • Ensures smooth operations and compliance of the food service area in adherence to KIPP and local public health and safety standards.
  • Maintains records/documents for health inspection.
  • Supports the set-up and clean-up of all materials and areas impacted by lunch. 
  • Ensures serving trays and any other equipment are properly sanitized and stored. 
  • Prepares snacks for the after-school program.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the KUPMS Campus during work hours. Cleaning duties will include those outlined below applying to classrooms, restrooms, exterior of the school, and the front office. 
  • Must be culturally aware and sensitive to the needs of the students and families we serve.  
  • Adherence to KIPP and local public health and safety standards
Other duties as assigned

    Cleaning Duties will Include, but are not limited to: 


    • Remove trash and replace can liners daily
    • On Demand or Emergency Cleaning


    • Maintain clean floors: sweep and wet mop daily
    • Clean toilets and urinals daily
    • Sanitize all restroom sinks and countertops daily
    • Remove trash from feminine receptacles daily, and replace bags
    • Check and restock toilet paper and soap daily (replace as needed)


    • Keep the dumpster area clean from debris and trash daily.
    • Pick up trash from the parking lot, entrances, and sidewalks daily.

    Front Office

    • Remove trash and replace can liners. 
    • Safely clean and sanitize areas affected by students’ bodily fluids
    • Safely clean and sanitize areas affected by facility emergencies (clogged toilets, leaking sinks, etc.)
    • Other duties as assigned

    Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands 


    • Ability to cart food from one location to another.  
    • Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment up to 40 lbs.
    • Energy: Motivated to work hard during a shift with a positive attitude and always willing to learn


    • The stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.
    • Reliability: On time to work every day. Absences are infrequent and communicated in advance.
    • Responsibility: Ability to work independently but also demonstrate flexibility.
    • Team Player: Maintain a positive attitude and listen respectfully to others.


    School environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.  Occasional classroom/school environment and travel. In an emergency context (e.g., pandemic), work may be conducted virtually fully or partially for extended periods of time or longer, and the expectation is that the individual will establish a productive, remote work environment (e.g., ability to stay connected through different technology means). It may require remote work as current public health guidelines warrant. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.


    Part-time, non-exempt position based on the school calendar. This teammate will work  approximately 15 hours/week preparing lunch, serving lunch, and cleaning campus.
