Family Ambassador for Student and Family Support

Position Summary
KIPP seeks enthusiastic, driven, and mission-driven individuals for the role of KIPP Family Ambassador. The Family Ambassador role offers KIPP parents an opportunity to develop professionally and to have an impact on expanding the school’s community through parent support. Family Ambassadors will receive leadership training to deepen partnerships with existing families and community leaders and expand KIPP’s community of families by supporting the implementation of and outreach activities on the ground and creating sustaining connections with new families in the school’s community.
Through a temporary, part-time commitment of up to a maximum of 10 hours each week for 3 months, Family Ambassadors will work with the Community Collaborative Support Manager and school teams to implement family support and outreach activities, connect with the broader school community, help raise the awareness and visibility of KIPP, and support families. This position is designed to support the Conway Scholar Hub by strengthening family engagement, improving student attendance, and connecting families to preventative and supportive resources. This role will focus on building trusting relationships with families living in Conway Homes and addressing barriers that impact student attendance, well-being, and academic engagement.
This role is a position that may require work on some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
- Current, past, or future parent of a KIPP student preferred.
- Comfort and confidence in conducting community outreach and organizing activities.
- Experience in community organizing, outreach, and/or advocacy
- Experience with K-12 public education systems as a parent, student, or staff preferred.
- Ability to work in a hybrid virtual and in-person workplace.
Knowledge/skills required:

- Credible amongst peers, a connector mindset, and welcoming of all communities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with and cultivate support from a diverse range of community members .
- Familiarity with information communication technologies, including Google productivity tools like Gmail, shared documents, and video conferencing tools like ZOOM.

- Available 10 hours per week, including attending regularly scheduled weekly one-on-one meetings, team meetings, and monthly professional development training workshops.
- Strong communication skills.
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to school sites and local events.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Support the implementation of Conway Scholar Hub activities
- Conduct proactive outreach to families, including wellness checks, attendance follow-ups, and home visits as needed
- Monitor daily student attendance and collaborate with school staff to address chronic absenteeism
- Identify and plan for opportunities to participate in events around your community throughout the year.
- Coordinate ongoing activities for outreach with school and central office teams on a weekly basis.
- Support preventative services by connecting families to resources such as mental health supports, social services, transportation assistance, and basic needs
- Collaborate closely with school leadership, the Conway Residence Council, and community partners to ensure coordinated support for families
- Support with additional duties as directed by the Community Collaborative Support Manager
Community outreach
- Identify and develop partnerships with community-based organizations that could amplify or promote KIPP through their networks, events, and other communications.
- Support the implementation of community and family events on school campuses.
Strengthen the partnership between current KIPP families and the school community
- Support activities to strengthen family engagement and participation in the school community.
- Serve as one point of contact for current families, improving the responsiveness of the school and gathering feedback from the families in an effort to improve the family experience.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead
Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental: School/ field environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Occasional travel through the Conway community. KIPP adheres to health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.
Classification and Schedule
This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position. Based on the RSO calendar and time of policy. Hours up to 10 hours per week. This position is based out of our Stockton schools located in the Conway Homes area.

Compensation
KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 an hour.
