Position Summary

 The Associate Director of Expanded Learning will oversee the operation and management of expanded learning programs, including the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), for KIPP students. They will be part of a team of two Associate Directors of Expanded Learning, working together to lead the organization's effort to develop innovative programs and expand learning opportunities outside of regular instructional hours. Their responsibilities include serving as coaches and accountability partners to school-based ELO-P Program Directors, ensuring students have appropriate access, robust curriculum, and enrichment options, and ensuring operational and fiscal compliance with state requirements.

 

The Associate Directors of Expanded Learning will collaborate with various teams to evaluate students' social and academic growth through data analysis, recommending changes, improvements, and initiatives to enhance program quality across KIPP schools. They will focus on building the capacity of school-based ELO-P Program Directors and require change management and implementation experience to support schools in meeting program and compliance requirements while strengthening the connection between afterschool programs and academic components.

 

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, systems-minded leader, and excellent project and people manager with a successful track record of effective change management, and improvement of processes and systems. The Associate Director of Expanded Learning will report to the Director of Public Accountability and Compliance during the 24-25 school year.

 

This is a hybrid role with the expectation that 2-3 days per week be spent onsite at our school campuses or at our Regional Support Office in Oakland.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience:
  • 5+ years work experience in education, to include school site level leadership or management
  • Direct management, team leadership and professional development experience 
  • Culture or instructional leadership preferred, and DEI leadership: run restorative, instructional meeting, lead affinity group spaces, etc.

 

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

 

Knowledge/skills required:
  • Extensive experience in education with an emphasis in school change management, education leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion leadership and professional development leadership  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of differentiated, data-driven, research-based instruction, interventions, and culturally responsive teaching practices 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and team building skills and ability to work harmoniously and effectively in problem solving 
  • Demonstrated ability in assigning responsibility, delegating authority, ensuring personal and staff accountability and recognizing exceptional performance
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time and priorities effectively 
  • Ability to interpret, apply and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Experience with fiscal and budget management, with ability to lead/direct others with this responsibility
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Demonstrated commitment to family and community involvement as partners in education

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Designs and develops comprehensive leader training programs, including creating a detailed scope and sequence to ensure effective and progressive skill development
  • Collaborate with partner Associate Director to define the centralized support structure for expanded learning, create a comprehensive vision for year two, and lead change management across participating schools to integrate school culture and belonging into programming
  • Provide DEI leadership, including facilitating inclusive meetings, leading affinity groups, promoting culturally responsive practices, addressing systemic inequities, and fostering a culture of belonging and equity
  • Lead needs assessments across KIPP ELO-P schools to identify and integrate new streams of centralized enrichment (i.e., athletics),  program support and professional development needs
  • Collaborate with regional teams and site leaders to build sustainable student enrichment activities aligned with schools' academic goals; integrate academics and expanded learning programs while ensuring compliance and meeting community needs
  • Build capacity of school staff through professional development, onsite coaching of ELO-P Directors, and supporting schools in fulfilling documentation, reporting and grant requirements
  • Evaluate program effectiveness utilizing multiple assessment tools; analyze results and provide information to leadership
  • Develop partnerships and establish contracts with centralized community partners
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

 

Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead

 

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

 

Environmental: Office environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. KIPP adheres to health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.

 

Classification
This is a full-time, exempt position based on a full year calendar cycle based out of our Regional Support Office with occasional travel to schools across the Bay Area and Stockton.

Compensation
KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits.
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The salary range for this position is between $102,000 and $125,000. Most candidates would be compensated at $109,000.
