The Community & Collaborative Support Manager, San Jose will support five KIPP NorCal schools to coordinate resources and referrals for students and families, build partnerships with community organizations, and develop trusting relationships with families that lead to meaningful participation in school culture. This position, in partnership with school culture teams, will be integral to realizing KIPP NorCal’s vision for holistic, integrated student support and community schools that serve the entire family. This position will report to the Associate Director of Family, Community, and District Partnerships.
The Community & Collaborative Support Manager will be expected to be on-site at KIPP schools in San Jose 3-4 days a week, and at the KIPP NorCal Regional Support Office in Oakland one day per week.

Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience in education, community outreach, social services, or a related field.

 

Education:
  • Minimum BA
  • Preference for advanced degree in counseling or social work

 

Knowledge/skills required:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Integrity and commitment to KIPP NorCal's mission and values.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in Social-emotional Learning and mental health supports for students and families.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective strategies for community engagement and collaboration.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to make informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in Google productivity tools and data management software.
  • Preferred bilingual in English plus another language spoken by our families (e.g. Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin or Vietnamese)



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Community Guidance: Offer direction and assistance to school leaders, educators, and mental health counselors on how to build school capacity to support families through engagement with community partners and other stakeholders. 
  • Collaborative Care: Participate as a member of  the Coordination of Services Team (COST), a school-based strategy for managing and integrating various learning supports and resources for students. Consult with COST team members (educators, mental health clinicians, education specialists etc.), bring student support services provided by community partners to schools and refer students and families to community partners for support services and follow up to ensure success.

 

  • Home Visits. As part of KIPP NorCal’s integrated support for student attendance and academic success, partner with regional and school operations teams to conduct home visits for families facing attendance or other challenges as identified through COST.
  • Family Engagement: Build deep relationships with families. Understand their strengths, assets, challenges and needs, and use that understanding to inform all aspects of the work. Develop strategies that invite feedback and facilitate ongoing communication between families and school leadership. Support and participate in school family engagement structures (quarterly family meetings, school-based events, etc).
  • Partnerships: Work in close partnership with school staff including Mental Health Clinicians, Schools Leaders and Assistant Principals to better understand student needs. Seek partnerships and opportunities to collaborate with community partners serving student and family needs. Strengthen existing community partnerships at the organizational and school level. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and regional resources for academic support, physical and mental health, and SEL supports and resources for basic needs. Support the distribution and outreach of critical health system information, including Medi-Cal provider activities. 
  • Training: Coordinate development opportunities for staff and families that focus on understanding each school’s academic programs, interventions, and SEL curriculum. Increase parent agency by providing access to information needed to support their students, as well as feedback opportunities for Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, education, or related field preferred. 

 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands 
Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment up to 20 lbs.
Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental: This role will be primarily based in the field and on school sites with 1 day a week in office and the option for some work from home. Office environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Significant (3-5 days a week) travel to classroom/school environment to school sites and community spaces. This role will be expected to be able to join in-person parent meetings at school sites, meet one on one with community leaders and partners as well as join community events.
Classification
This is a full-time, exempt position based on a full year calendar cycle or school calendar, based out of our Regional Support Office. The Community & Collaborative Support Manager will report to the regional staff, with significant time spent working with school site leaders and staff. Managers will work closely with mental health counselors, community partners, school site family engagement leads, and students and families.

Compensation
KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits.
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The salary range for this position is between $82,000 and $100,000. Most candidates would be compensated at $87,000.
