About KIPP NorCal

We are a thriving nonprofit network of 23 free, public charter schools open to all students. At KIPP, we believe all children should grow up free to create the future they want for themselves and that schools can and should be a critical factor in making that vision a reality. Together with families and communities, we create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose—college, career, and beyond—so they can lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world.

Our student community consists of over 7,100 elementary, middle, and high school students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San José, Redwood City, and Stockton. 80% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 27% are multilingual learners, and 17% receive special education services. We strive to cultivate a representative team of teachers and leaders that reflect our students’ diversity.

Role Overview

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) partners with school teams to ensure students with significant behavioral needs receive evidence-based behavioral assessment, intervention, and support that promotes meaningful access to instruction and positive educational outcomes. This role leads a portfolio of complex behavior cases across multiple schools, partnering with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to build staff capacity and strengthen implementation of effective behavior supports.

In this role, you own projects end-to-end with real autonomy over how the work gets done. You make day-to-day execution decisions and bring your manager in when something would change the project's direction or require resources beyond your scope.

Core Responsibilities

Behavioral Assessment & Intervention Planning

  • Leads Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), Special Circumstance Instructional Assessments (SCIAs), and other behavior evaluations to identify the function of behavior and develop evidence-based recommendations that improve student outcomes.

  • Develops individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), replacement behavior strategies, and behavior goals that align with student needs, IEPs, and educational programming.

  • Partners with multidisciplinary teams to integrate behavior assessment findings into special education services and instructional planning.

  • Communicates assessment results and behavior recommendations clearly to educators, families, and IEP teams to support informed decision-making.

Behavior Program Implementation & Progress Monitoring

  • Oversees implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans across assigned schools, ensuring interventions are delivered consistently and with fidelity.

  • Develops behavior data collection systems that enable school teams to monitor student progress, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and make timely instructional adjustments.

  • Analyzes behavioral data to identify trends, recommend modifications to intervention plans, and improve student outcomes over time.

  • Maintains accurate documentation and student records that meet IDEA, FERPA, and organizational compliance requirements.

Consultation, Coaching & Professional Learning

  • Coaches Education Specialists, paraeducators, school leaders, and other staff to strengthen implementation of Applied Behavior Analysis principles and evidence-based behavior interventions.

  • Delivers professional learning that builds educator capacity in positive behavior supports, classroom behavior management, de-escalation strategies, and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans.

  • Consults with classroom teams to develop proactive behavior management practices that promote safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.

  • Partners with families to build shared understanding of behavior intervention strategies and strengthen consistency between home and school supports.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Continuous Improvement

  • Partners with the Regional Special Education team, school leaders, and related service providers to coordinate behavior supports that improve educational access for students with complex behavioral needs.

  • Leads behavior case management for assigned students by coordinating stakeholders, monitoring implementation, and proactively addressing barriers to successful intervention.

  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen regional behavior systems, resources, and professional learning, bringing recommendations to the Lead Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

  • Communicates implementation progress, emerging risks, and resource needs to regional leadership, escalating issues that require broader organizational support.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KIPP Leadership Competencies

These competencies describe the core leadership behaviors expected at this level – they guide how we hire, develop, and grow our people at KIPP NorCal.

  • Lead Self: You seek diverse feedback, adjust your approach based on your impact on others, and continuously develop your expertise. You interrupt bias, advocate for equitable practices, and share your knowledge with peers.

  • Lead People: You build authentic relationships across lines of difference and foster inclusion and psychological safety. You communicate the rationale for change, build buy-in, and surface resistance early. You partner across teams, identify coordination gaps, and resolve them proactively.

  • Lead Results: You translate strategy into project plans and manage competing priorities without losing sight of outcomes. You use data to analyze problems and inform decisions, deliver on time and scope, and manage up effectively — flagging risks early and bringing options when facing obstacles.
