Position Summary
KIPP Public Schools Northern California is in search of a dynamic, driven and enthusiastic Lead Family Ambassador in San Francisco to join our Student Recruitment and Enrollment Team. KIPP NorCal’s mission is to create joyful, academically excellent schools (tuition-free) that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose—college, career and beyond—so they can lead fulfilling lives and create a more just world. This role will primarily focus on student recruitment for four schools in San Francisco – KIPP Bayview Elementary (grades TK-4), KIPP Bayview Academy (grades 5-8), KIPP SF Bay Academy (grades 5-8), and KIPP SF College Preparatory (grades 9-12) through implementation of a targeted student recruitment plan. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
With direction from a Student Recruitment Manager and/or the Director of Student Recruitment and Enrollment, the Lead Family Ambassador will implement a dynamic student recruitment plan in San Francisco to achieve or exceed KIPP’s annual application and enrollment targets set by the region. Key activities include, but are not limited to:
  • Community Engagement: Represent KIPP’s San Francisco schools at community events and family-centric spaces with the objective to generate interest and leads from prospective students/families and raise positive awareness of KIPP. Identify, build and strengthen relationships with community based organizations and local businesses that could amplify or promote KIPP schools through their networks, events, and other communications. Identify and plan for opportunities to participate in relevant community events throughout the year.
  • Prospective Family Interaction: Engage with prospective families through various channels, including phone calls, emails, and KIPP-organized events to nurture their interest and generate student applications for our four schools in San Francisco. Effectively articulate and champion KIPP’s value proposition, student services, and our history of successful student outcomes in college, career and beyond. Play an integral part in the logistical planning and execution of community and family events in service of new student recruitment.
  • Application Assistance: Support families through the online application, enrollment and registration processes. Ensure a positive and smooth new family experience throughout these processes. Provide a warm handoff of families to school staff.
  • KIPP School Engagement: Understand each school’s value proposition, culture and community dynamics. Establish credibility with the schools’ leadership team (principal, operations manager, etc.) and effectively articulate recruitment progress and upcoming activities on a regular basis. 
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate records of recruitment activities and prospective student interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

This role is a non-exempt, up to 40 hours per week position with benefits that will require work on some weekends, evenings and holidays. This role has an in-person expectation in our Oakland Regional Support Office for at least one day per week, depending on job training and business needs. Over 50% of this role will be spent in the field.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in spoken and written Spanish.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with and cultivate support from a diverse range of community members – particularly parents of school-aged children/teens.
  • Must have a car to travel between campuses and to/from community events/meetings. Mileage for work travel is reimbursable.
  • Proven experience organizing and working within teams or volunteers toward a common goal.
  • Credible amongst peers, a connector mindset, and welcoming of all communities.
  • Continuous learner and a self-starter.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience or aptitude with recruitment-related work, preferably in a community engagement or advocacy organization, business, nonprofit, or education service. 
  • Familiarity with technologies including Google productivity tools like Gmail, Google drive, and video conferencing tools like Zoom.
  • Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool such as Hubspot.
  • Experience using a work management tool such as Asana.

 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

 

Physical: Ability to talk to people and hold meetings in different spaces. Must be able to navigate in a variety of spaces. Much of the day may involve walking. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching overhead.

 

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal professional work standards. Ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, memorize and recall objects and people.

 

Environmental: Canvassing, event tabling, and flyering in the field may require work outdoors in San Francisco. 
Classification and schedule
Full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Based on the Regional Support Office calendar and time of policy.

KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! KIPP offers a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, and transportation benefits. 
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The compensation range for this role is $30.29-$35.58 per hour for up to 40 hours. This is a non-exempt role.
