Position Summary
KIPP Bay Area Public Schools is seeking an experienced Mental Health Clinician to support students receiving Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS). In this position, you will provide an array of therapeutic services to youth in a public school-based setting. Students may be receiving Level III ERMHS, which includes daily intensive therapeutic services, as well as Level II ERMHS, which is typically weekly individual counseling. The Mental Health Clinician will work closely with the school team to meet the needs of students whose emotional regulation challenges impede their participation in the general education setting. The ideal candidate cares deeply about children and adolescents, especially those who have experienced significant trauma in their lives.

Reporting to the school leader & receiving coaching from the clinical supervisor, the Mental Health Clinician will provide psychotherapeutic interventions, behavioral supports, and mental health treatment services including counseling, consultation, treatment and case management for students receiving ERMHS. 

Required Qualifications
Experience:

  • At least one year of experience (2+ years preferred) providing mental health services in school-based settings.
  • Experience in an intensive therapeutic setting (e.g. counseling-enriched, non-public school, residential) strongly preferred. 

Education:

  • Master’s Degree (or higher)  in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field.
  • Clinical licensure in the State of California (MFT, LCSW, LPCC, Licensed Psychologist) as dictated by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology. Applicants MUST have at minimum an associate-level registration with the BBS that is current and in good standing. 

Knowledge/skills required:

  • Familiarity with special education, IEP team participation, and educationally related mental health services and the delivery of such services, highly preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily or weekly individual counseling, group counseling, and parent counseling/support per student IEPs or team recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with the student's multidisciplinary treatment team to develop daily programming and interventions that will meet each client's educational, mental health and behavioral needs.
  • Create and implement therapeutic interventions and behavior support plans for the purposes of fostering better mental health and positive learning environments for students.
  • Provide crisis intervention, assessments, and triage of students as needed. 
  • Assess and evaluate students in conjunction with other staff at regular intervals via direct observations, interviews, and other data collection methods.
  • Participate as a member of the individualized education program (IEP) team. 
  • Determine IEP goals and services for students qualifying for ERMHS and monitor student progress toward IEP goal attainment using Special Education Information System (SEIS).
  • Provide case management services as well as make necessary referrals to community agencies to support continued treatment and discharge planning.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate administrative and treatment records related to client care in accordance with standards and policies specified by KIPP Bay Area Public Schools.
  • Provide all services in a culturally appropriate manner and with consideration of the impact of traumatic life experiences. 
  • Practice professional renewal through a variety of means such as attending conferences, workshops, and seminars and through participation in professional growth opportunities provided by KIPP Bay Area Public Schools. It may be required to travel throughout the region approximately once per month to attend conferences, workshops, or clinical supervision/development activities. 
  • Consistent & on-time attendance during school work hours. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical: 

Sitting, walking, reaching, bending, use of both legs; use of both hands, wrist/arm motion, grasping/holding, use of all fingers; lift, carry/push objects 1-20 lbs.; use of both eyes, color vision, near-vision; sense of smell, normal hearing, distinguish sounds in transmission, speaking.

Mental:  
Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and general alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental:
School environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.  Ability to travel within the Bay Area with own transportation (mileage reimbursed).

Classification
Full-time, exempt position.

This is a school year calendar position, following the school year vacation calendar & leave policy.
