KIPP Bay Area Public Schools is a network of 15 schools across the Bay Area educating over 6,000 students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San Jose, and Redwood City and supporting over 1,000 Bay Area alumni in college. 

Position Overview 
The Development Manager will execute an individual donor operation within the Bay Area development team that helps raise significant funds through annual giving.  

The Development Manager will help execute and implement the direction for our individual revenue stream. This person will manage and grow a network of individual donors, with the aim to foster and deepen relationships with our donors. 

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Manager will implement donor-centered moves management for annual donors, as well as help facilitate cultivation and stewardship activities. 

Ideal Candidate
You have a passion for building relationships and are an excellent communicator with an eye for details. You will lead on all individual prospect research and strive to find ways that their interests and priorities align with our financial needs. 

You analyze the information at hand to create detailed and creative plans, tactics, and solutions. You like to research and organization. You enjoy digging into a prospective donor’s giving tendencies. You are great at looking for opportunities and uncovering new prospects. You are interested in donor data such as retention, renewal, and re-engagement rates.

You are extremely organized and exceptional at managing many details at once and multiple deadlines. You create detailed calendars with proposal timelines, stewardship activities, and close dates. You help facilitate and track moves management for each donor and use it to triage and make strategic decisions alongside the team.

You have a strong commitment to public education, equity, and social justice. 


  • Individual Giving Management (40%) 
    • Help identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors through external meetings and communication in partnership with the CEO, Chief of External Affairs, Director of Development, and board councils. 
    • Analyze the motivations, barriers, and networks of donors.
    • Help diversify and expand the individual giving a base. 
    • Develop tailored cultivation plans.
    • Lead all annual giving campaigns.  
    • Analyze and act on donor retention rates.
    • Work with the Director of Development to help manage and execute actions for the CEO and Chief. 
    • Consistently and effectively analyze progress to annual and long-term goals.
    • Through research, analysis, and understanding of our organizational vision and strategy, identify prospective funders whose priorities align with KIPP’s work.
  • Donor Materials Creation (50%) 
    • With support from the DoD, lead on composing tailored narratives and pitches for annual and high capacity individual donors.
    • Help develop high-quality reporting and engagement materials that convey our successes and learnings to donors, as well as provide insight and context.
    • Produce, curate, and leverage consistent, high-quality donor communications.
    • Create compelling opportunities for current and prospective donors to engage with our schools. 
  • Development Team Responsibilities (10%) 
    • Work with team members on coordinated donor efforts or multi-stream strategies.
    • Brainstorm ideas and tactics for deeper donor engagement and more efficient progress to goals.
    • Participate in regular step-backs to analyze data, progress, forecast, and conduct an analysis of strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities.  


  • At least 3 years of work experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in development, particularly around individual giving and data tracking, preferred. 
  • Prior experience using Salesforce preferred.
